I totally believe in ADR's and I usually have one per day, maybe two, for our family. I am currently helping plan a trip for a friend of my DH's, first time trip with a 3yo princess. I have been doing more research and planning than usual since they have never been and my dd's are older and have been before.

Princess meals - YIKES.

The family I am helping has the one dd and would like a princess meal. I thought we would book one princess meal and one character meal, probably with Mickey and the other fab 5. That would cover most of the characters and then I will advise them as to where and when to find the other characters for autographs while in the parks.

So... in reading about character meals I am finding posts where people book several meals in hopes of meeting one or two (mostly princesses) and then cancelling the rest on the day of, or when said character has been found.

Its fine by WDW I am sure but IMHO I don't think its ok to book 3-5 ADR's when you only intend to keep one maybe two?? I know for a fact that you can only have one ADR for each meal per day, if you make two lunch ADR's WDW will cancel one. What about more character meals than you intend to attend?

What about the people who call slightly then 180 days out, say 90 and there are no ADR's, oh then one opens up day of?? I am sure they are thinking there was nothing 90 days out there will be none now.

Just because you can does that mean you should? Sorry I just think its wrong to book several of the same meal only to figure out which ones you want. Anyway just got me thinking - what is to many ADR's?

If you book an ADR and then have to cancel (illness, running late, etc.) that's fine. It was not done on purpose, so I have no problem with that. But double or triple booking ADR's seems rude to me. Maybe I am in the minority, but I say just make up your mind as to where you want to eat and then stick with it!

I also agree that it is totally wrong to book numerous ADR's that you will have to cancel later on. Makes it very hard on people trying to get some of the more difficult ADR's like at the Castle.

While I have not done this myself (my schedule is too flexible to waste energy on any reservations not made same day), this is really the only option left thanks to their 180 in advance reservation policy. Making reservations that you might use is completely reasonable, as long as one could use all of them. I think it is wrong to make four reservations for 18:00 on wednesday at four different restaurants so that one can choose among them that evening. Making one reservation for every meal is fine. Who knows, they may expect to only go to one or two, but may find they like table service restaurants and use them all.

Releasing the reservation as early as one is sure it will not be used is a courtesy to other guests.
