ADRs ? How important to make in mid-May?

Just wondering how crucial it is to make ADR's (when the time comes) for the time period we are going (May 14-21). Would we have a good "shot" if we just make 'em day-to-day after we get there or should we just make a few at ones we REALLY know we want and hope for the best on the rest? If so, do you think "hoping for the best" will work? TIA

We've been twice in mid May. Three years ago it was not crowded at all, and we really only needed the popular restaurants - Crystal Palace and Le Cellier. Two years ago it was much more crowded and we definitely needed them. The only one I didn't need that I had was Boatwrights. I would make the ones you really want. Except for Cinderella's Castle and maybe Chef Mickeys, you probably don't have to make them on the exact 180 day mark. Each trip I have changed my mind and called a couple weeks in advance and not had much trouble getting what I wanted.

Thanks so much. It will just be DH and I so we're not looking for character meals.

I think the standard advice holds, even in May. If there is some place you really want to go, then go ahead and make an ADR. This way you will avoid possible disappointment.

DH and I will be going at the same time to celebrate our 20th! I would make ADR's at the places you know you will want to go. We are actually going to make ours this month as soon as the 180 window opens up. Guess we are compulsive planners but we think the planning of our ADRs is half the fun. We only make them for dinner. You could look at some of the menus on all ears to decide what is a must do for you. We have also skipped a few if the ressie really conflicted with something we were doing that day. As a courtesy of course we always called that afternoon to cancel and make room for others to enjoy!!
