We decided last week to take the kids for free dining in August. I didn't get the resort that I wanted but I got my second choice so, not bad so far. Now I'm trying to make some plans in order to book ADR's. I have to say it's tough deciding in May what you want to eat in August. I read all the menus and here's what I've got so far.

1900 Park Fare -dinner-4:45pm
Cap N' Jacks -dinner-4:40pm
Boma -breakfast-10:15am
Kona Cafe -dinner 6:40pm
Cape May cafe -dinner-6:30pm

I still need to book 2-3 more dinners. We wanted to do the Spirit of Aloha but it is completely booked for our entire stay. We also wanted to get into Chef Mickey's but they have nothing until 8:45pm and later.

The CM, she was EXTREMELY nice, told me that there is very little availability for the first 2 weeks of free dinning.

Any suggestions for other restaurants? The only thing is they can't be in the parks because we only bought the required 1day pass. This trip is more for relaxing and enjoying the resort.

How about trying somewhere at DTD like Raglan Road or Wolfgang Pucks or for something a bit fancier Citricos at the GF is fabulous.

Yummm..all sound good to me!:)

And don't give up yet, on either resort or ADR's..

Some of those reservations will continue to cancel...especially as we get closer to the July 8/9/10 (folks have to have their bookings paid in full by then, so things are going to open up), but you have to keep calling and checking!

We really wanted ASMovies - started out with Fort Wilderness cabins, then bounced to POFQ, and then voila! it was it in the system.

And HoopDeeDooRevue was all sold out - managed to grab it as well.

So don't give up! LOL!

Whispering Canyon or Hoop Dee Doo (2 credit). Enjoy the boat ride without needing a park pass! Or Spoodles - then you can walk around the Boardwalk and catch the festivities.

I had considered Spoodles. I will add that in to my wish list.

I really want Spirit of Aloha. I had a possible brain wave---could I ask for 2 tables for 2? I have never been to it----could this work?

Raglan Road Pub.

Beaches and Cream. They were being re-habbed last time we were down, but great burgers and shakes.

Pepper Market at CSR. (Counter service, but the meal is huge.)

Spoodles is o.k., but we weren't overly impressed. I don't recall anything that The Kids would appreciate. Do the Boardwalk and then get an ice cream in the Ice Cream Shoppe.

The Hoop-de-Doo is a nice option if the kids are reasonably young. It's a two-credit. Go to McDs in DTD to make up for it and give them a thrill.

If you're shopping, go to DTD and eat at The Earl of Sandwich. Counter service. Different. Go from your resort to MGM and then take the boat service to DTD if you haven't already done so.

Jim.

Try places for lunch or breakfast if you want to use your credits. I know that Chef Mickey's will be open for lunch during part of the free dining period.

We are going with DS and his girlfriend and I told them that they had to make up their minds about where they were going to eat within 2 days of booking it. They wanted Le Cellier but didn't get it and are going to Mexico instead. ADR's fill up fast during free dining.

Has anyone been to O'hana for dinner?

I've been there for breakfast and I thought it was excellent but they seem to get mixxed reviews for dinner. I have read the menu and description about the dinner service and it sounds like fun.

Ohana is one of our favorite restaurants for dinner. We make sure to go each trip.

I'm not sure why it get's negative reviews, we think the food is very good and the atmosphere amazing, especially if you time it with Wishes and watch the fireworks while eating dinner.

I had a small victory today!

I called and got Spirit of Aloha on the day and time that I wanted. Only cat. 3 was available but after the conversation that I had with the CM the day before I'm feeling positive about eventually getting all the ADR's that I want. So, I guess I'll be calling daily. I still really want Chef Mickey's.

I just read that 1900 Park Fare is closed for rehab. They have moved temporarily to the GF cafe. Anyone know what it's like? Should I try for some place else instead? We have booked dinner there.

Still going great!!! I managed to get O'hana on a day that I had been told was completely filled.

I'm thinking about trying to book multiple ADR's for the same day so that I can figure out what we really want to do later.

Has anyone done this? Is it allowed?

If you haven't gotten Chef Mickeys yet, try for Lunch. Not many people know that from Aug 26-Sept 8 they are offering a character lunch too.

So maybe try that!

Thanks, but that won't help. We are going to be spending most of our time at either the water parks or at the resort. This trip is meant to be more on the relaxing side. We did buy the 1day park pass to get the free dining plan so we will be using that but we wanted to book most of our TS meals for dinner. That way we can lounge around during the day and then go out at night.

I'm going to just keep calling. Daily if I have to. So far it's working, slowly but surely.

I found another web site that has picks and reviews of the food at WDW and now I'm starting to doubt some of the choices I have made. Particularly Cap N' Jacks---anyone been there?

We ate at Cap'n Jack's last August and have ADR for our Anniversary this August. We really enjoyed it. The menu is limited but all of us found something we liked. Service was really good.

We've been to Cap'n Jacks and liked it.

We've been to other places that people loved and didn't like it so we've now taken the approach that we will try each restaurant ourselves rather than deciding where to go by reading others reviews. For instance we love Ohana but lots of people don't like it at all. It's really subjective.

I wouldn't book multiple ADR's. There's a debate about whether it's actually allowed or not -- some people say that Disney will cancel all of your ADR's if you book more than one but you can do it under a different name and how is Disney going to know it's the same person. But here's something to consider before you do it -- you're having trouble getting ADR's -- how would you like it if you're having trouble because everyone has booked multiple ADRs and will then pick (on the day of) where they are going to eat? For me it's a consideration thing and I wouldn't do it because I would feel that I was depriving someone else of getting an ADR. Just my 2cents.

I totally agree with what you are saying. My intention was to book anything and everything that I can and then in a week or two make my final decisions and cancel what I don't want. I would never leave it until the day of. My family is excited about the trip but don't want to participate in the planning. It makes it all harder for me. MY DH will be the one to complain about the restaurants if he doesn't like what's on the menu and he is being the worst one for contributing to the planning.

I would look at the menus either on this site or allearsnet.com and print them out and have your DH look at them and tell him he has to pick or he can't complain if you pick for him. :goodvibes

I wouldn't book multiple ADRs and then cancel even if it was in a few weeks. The time period you're going is going to be busy and it just doesn't seem fair to book ADRs that you know you aren't going to use.

I made him sit down and read the menus. Oddly, he thought they all were great. We did eliminate one and came up with one other possibility.

Is Whispering Canyon really busy? Food?

Still trying for Chef Mickey's. This is around day 9. Any bets on what day I'll get it---is ever?
