ADR's at Disneyland?

I'm a WDW veteran, and am quite familiar with the whole ADR process there, and even which restaurants you need them for and which ones you can pretty much walk up to. However, we're making our first visit to DL later this month, and I was wondering:

- Are ADR's as necessary at DL as they are at WDW?

- Which restaurants would need ADR's more than others?

- Does the ADR system work the same way as at WDW?

You will find most of DL to be walk up service. There are only a few places that are full sit down dinning, that require PS (Priority Seating).

You will want to make them for any and all character meals.

In DL there are only a few places: Blue Bayou and Carnation cafe, as well as the Plaza inn for Minnie and friends breakfast. Lunch and dinner at the plaze do not accept PS. They are currently adding another place in New Orleans. It willl open later this month. They are not currently taking PS for the new place. I'm not sure when they will begin.

In DCA you can make PS for Ariels, princess meal for lunch or dinner, and The Yineyard room. There might be one more, but I cant think of what it is.

DLH- Goofys for character meals, brunch or dinner
Granvilles steak house
Hooks pointe

GC- Storytells- character breakfast, non character lunch and dinner
Napa Rose

PP-
Lilo and stitch breakfast
PCH grill
Yamabuki

You might want to take a look at www.dlresortinfo.com for an idea of menus, price, etc. PS can be made 60 days in advance.

I actually thought of another question: Do the restaurants within Downtown Disney at DL integrate more closely than the ones at WDW's version of DtD? For example, do they accept ADR's at DL's DtD? They don't at WDW's DtD. I'm guessing they don't at DL's DtD, but wanted to make sure.

Yes, you can make reservation or PS, with all of them except Rainforest. I know it can be done, but we dont usually eat in DTD, so I can't give you a lot of details.

We don't put a lot of thought into our meals at DL. We eat when we are hungry, in what ever area we are at the time. Our last trip we had one ps in 3 days- a character meal. The trip before that was 5 days, we had 2, and we missed one of them!

I don't think ADR's are quite as necessary at DL as they are WDW, probably because so many DL visitors are locals who don't eat at the full service restaurants and also because Disneyland doesn't have a counterpart to the now incredibly popular Disney Dining Plan that WDW has. At DL I like to have them for character meals in particular but I can usually get what I want and even make changes if need be quite close in to my trip. The hardest one to score at Disneyland is Blue Bayou but that isn't open until later this month so you may not even be able to eat there. At DL you make ps' up to 60 days out and you won't receive a confirmation number which feels kinda weird. I just made some for our trip in two weeks and had no problem getting what I wanted at the time I wanted. No way could I have done that for WDW, given the popularity of the dining plan.

I can also verify that you can make priority seatings for DTD restaurants except RFC at the same time you make your other ps'. I just made a ps last night for Naples in DTD. The direct number for RFC should you desire to go there is: 714-722-0413. All the others are made at: 714-781-DINE. If you enjoy winging it you will like Disneyland. I think they have a lot of really nice counter service options. And the portions are generally huge so you can share. I hope you enjoy your trip to Disneyland, be sure and do a trip report, its always nice to hear how WDW regulars like Disneyland!

If you want to eat in DTD and it is a weekend/Friday I would make a PS. We waited for 40 minutes to eat when we were starving on a Saturday because we assumed we'd be ok. We then made PS for Sunday night at the Wine Country Trattoria (anniversary dinner) and we did NOT need it. We got there early and got seated immediately. I would not recommend that restaurant though the service was awful. Good luck and enjoy your trip to DL!

We have only eaten at Trattoria twice, but both times we had good service and good food. We had ADR's both times and probably could have done with out them for at least one of the nights. It is a great place to get a patio table at and watch the EP. It is one of our favorite places to eat. It stinks your service was bad, but all restaurants have bad nights on service and I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying it. It is a great place for wine, some good food and great seats for the EP!

Two foxes-I was interested in booking the Wine Country Trattoria package that provides seating for the MSEP. I was wondering if the seats would be good for viewing or if we would be better off seeing it from the curb like we do in WDW for parades. Can you describe the view for me please?

We did not book the reserved seating. We just made regular ADRs for Trattoria and asked for a patio seat when we checked in. I believe we made the ADRs for about 30 min prior to the parade beginning. We did have to kneel on our seats a bit to see over the railing, but it was a very nice view regardless. I believe the reserved seats are set up for maximum view and or easy standing, but the regular seats are workable, too.

However, the times we have seen the EP in DCA, there has been no shortage of space along a curb. Either way, you'd be fine! Hope this helps.

What is the likelihood of getting into, say, Goofy's Kitchen on a Friday night? Would we definitely need PS's? We are arriving next Friday and I'm not sure what time we will get to the resort and whether or not we'll be hungry then.

I agree with those who said PS at the characters meals is important. We watched people turned away at Ariel's Grotto last weekend. I've had a hard time at the last minute getting good times at Goofy's. Rainforest is hard, too at the last minute. YOu call them directly.
