Disney World Dining Booking Window Moves to 180 Days

Posted: 07 Aug 2009 05:05 PM PDT

Starting October 27, 2009, Walt Disney World will move the booking window for Advanced Dining Reservations to 180 days, from the current 90 days. Walt Disney World resort guests will be able to book all dining reservations 180 days in advance of the day they check in, up to 10 days at a time. Non-Disney World Resort guest can make dining reservations 180 days in advance of their dining date.

Currently, some popular restaurants such as Le Cellier and Cinderella’s Royal Table are nearly impossible to find, even calling first thing 90 days in advance. This move should allow those who plan well in advance plenty of opportunity to book the reservations they want.

Starting on October 27, 2009, guests will be able to book dining reservations up until April 25, 2010.

Rumor is that at the time of the change, all dining reservations will require a credit card guarantee. No official announcement has been made, I will update this post if/when that change is announced.

I would like to go on record as saying that I hate this. :rolleyes1 But I know this has been a hot topic of conversation - those of you who love to plan this early must be rejoicing. ;)

I'll believe it when I see Disney announce it (or at least some reliable site which, IMHO, the one above has not earned yet).

I think one benefit will be not having to compete with free dining.
I may be wrong, but I don't think they announce the free dining that far in advance.

I personally wish they would go back to having to make dining reservations on the day you wish to dine. I despise having to decide where I want to eat six months or even three months in advance. I don't plan my meals at home that far in advance and I shouldn't have to for when I go on vacation. This means in January I have to decide where I want to eat in June not good at all

:woohoo: Love 180 days!!!! Our next trip to WDW is in 14 months and I already know where we'll be dining!

A-Men!!!!!

Never have truer words been spoken.

Believe me, I hope it's not true! I've since edited my post to label this as a rumor...

I like the 180 idea. I know what restaurants I enjoy, those I want to return, and the new ones I want to try. I think the issue to be resolved, that both of us (180 vs 1 day reservation makers) may agree upon, is the multiple reservations that people make. I have heard of individuals making ADRs, with multiple calls, for the same day at the same time at several restaurants. They figure they will decide later. Those need to end.

I LOVE having the 180 day in advance ADR!!!! We will be going in Dec, and I have to WAIT (have been waiting for months already) to book my ADRS. I know, for the most part, where we like to dine and I like having first opportunity to do so.

I will say that IF this turns out to be true, Disney absolutely HAS to post park hours at LEAST the same 180 days out!!

I don't know why they just released November 2009 when its already August! In years past I would already have my itinerary done with ADR's, but now find myself WAITING to see when the parks are open, which EMHs etc.

Bring back the 180 days!!!:cool1:

is the multiple reservations that people make
My understanding is that the reservation system has a pretty good expectation of how many people won't show up for any particular restaurant meal, and over-books to account for it.

This makes sense. There are many reasons why someone might not show up for a meal, and double-booking is just one of them---got tired before dinner time and went home, were having too much fun and ran late so decided to grab a quick bite before the fireworks, etc. They could rely on walk-ups to fill the gaps, but that might leave some tables empty, which means less revenue for that restaurant that day, and Disney hates to leave money on the table! Finally, they are very careful to point out that "Advanced Dining Reservations" aren't reservations in the true sense ("when the next table for your party size is available").

This is also the reason why advanced dining reservations are here to stay. They are not for the guests' convenience, they are for Disney's---they make it easier for Disney to reach that goal of filling every table in every restaurant for every meal.

Well I for one hope it becomes true. I prefured the 180 rule to the current 90 day one. We always knew when and where we wanted to eat way before the 180 day mark. To me it wasn't so hecktick as making them at 90 days.

When ADRs were at 180 days I always had to tweak them as our vacation grew closer. It was good to get (the hard to get ressies) but it seemed like we always changed our minds as our vacation got closer and our touring plans changed. I made my ADRs this morning online at 90 days and I only made 3 because we are still planning our trip.

Those crazy people on the DVC planning forum keep creating these rumors about 180 day dining! I guess it's something they really want, at least they wanted a lot more than anyone else. I guess they think they should get special privileges or something like that, just because they have to plan where they're going a year in advance they want to make their dinner reservations that far out also.

That's an interesting thought especially since the OP specifically posted that she didn't like the idea of 180 days. She also stated that she saw it originally posted in the dining area, and I saw a post in the rumors threads (before it was moved).

I know that for myself, as a DVC owner, I like to post in the DVC threads first because that is where I read the most information.

I also respectfully disagree with the notion that "they" (DVC owners) think we should get special privileges "just because" we're planning a year in advance. I planned my vacations years in advance because that's just me, and I've done that for many many years before I ever became a DVC owner.

What difference does it make if you're a DVC owner or not if you do want or don't want ADR's 180 days in advance? My interpretation of the post is to give everyone a 'heads up" as to what she heard, and I didn't get a hint of elitist attitude or entiltement in anyway whatsoever; I do however think your post was a direct insult to DVC owners as a whole and completely unwarranted.

Posted from a "crazy person who dares to read the DVC planning threads"
