ADR Etiquette??

We are undecided about our itinerary for 2 of the 7 days of our vacation and it depends on which night we plan on doing MVMCP. I have booked 2 dinner ADRS for each of those two nights, one based on whether we are doing the pary that night and the other based on which park we plan on doing in case we don't do the party. Basically I have 2 ADRs for Rose and Crown Pub and 2 ADRs for Ohanas. But we are only planning on eating at those restaurants once each. We may not decide until getting down there and checking the weather and seeing how our kids are faring with the late nights.

Was it wrong for me to make 2 ADRS for the same night? I think I made them on two different calls, so I am not sure if the CM could see all the ADRs I have booked. Once we decide I was going to cancel the 2nd ones, but it might not be until that same day.

What do you guys do? This is my first time planning and my first time with ADRs so I am not sure exactly what the rules are, and if there are unwritten rules, if you know what I mean.

I have 2 for the same day about 30 min. apart. We have not decided which on we want. I will cancel the other many days before the other.

So I personally don't think it is wrong.

As long as you cancel it eventually, and aren't a no-show, I don't think you're doing anything wrong. After all, if you cancel at some point, the reservation is now open for others, so it's not like you're depriving someone of an ADR they really wanted. I do think you should cancel as soon as you know though. In fact, I did the same thing. I have 2 ADR's for dinner at different restaurants for the same day. I will cancel one when I get all the members of my party to decide which one they want for sure. However, I have heard stories about ADR's getting cancelled if Disney Dining finds out you have two at the same time. I'm not sure how they would know that though...

don't know how true this is but some said the new adrs automatically cancel the old ones if they are for the same time. it must be on their computers as they can look them up and tell you what you have. some times when i went to make a new one they would say i had one for such and such a time. i do not know if it is a different screen they have to pull up or not.

Thanks for the responses - I have been feeling guilty about having 2 for the same night. We will know by the first night there which ones we are going to keep so we will be cancelling the extra ones 2 and 5 days beforehand. I was just afraid of not having my options open for these 2 days and didn't want to get stuck with nothing, especially traveling w/ 2 young kids who have a fairly regular dining schedule.

Both nights for me I was unable to get the exact same time for both restaurants so the ADRs are about an hour apart both nights. Maybe that is why the CM didn't say anything to me about it.

Definitely cancel any ADRs you don't plan on using, at least 24 hours prior, so someone has a chance of rebooking them. Keep in mind that in many cases you cannot cancel an ADR the morning-of. I've tried a few times before learning that it's simply too late at that point, and I'd be considered a no-show. And of course if no-shows become a problem, Disney will have to change their policies again to reduce no-shows, and that'll probably make ADRs a little harder to manage overall. :(
