ADP Live From Disney World & Universal Too!

Ha - at least your massages are being used and appreciated! :) I hope there's some left for your cruise...

I can't get over how old Anna looks! Her face has really thinned out - she's starting to look more like a "tween." :( I love the round little innocent faces.

Mythos sounds great. This is sad but when I read $50 I was thinking "Only $50? What a deal!"  I guess compared to T-Rex it is, and the food sounds better.

Great report. When we venture that way (in case you were thinking we might do that when HP opens - you're right!) we'll definitely have some tips to go on. It sounds worth it to stay on property to get that front of the line thingy.

How do you think the resort compares to AKL or WDW resorts in general for theming, guest services, etc? Sorry - making you work! Maybe I should be sending you some cash, a fee-for-service type arrangement.

Aaron ~ Was that really a dried banana peel, or something made to look like it? Did you eat it? How was it? It just doesn't sound like it would be very good...but the rest of the ingredients sounds yuuummmmyyyy! :thumbsup2

Aaron sounds like you guys are continuing to have an awesome trip! Thanks for the review of Mythos. It seems like something we may like, however I am a veggie head (I eat fish) so not sure if I would have many choices. That banana dessert though looked amazing!

I have similiar pics of the new construction for HP land. I didn't know that big building was going to be Hogwarts. Did you get 'official' confirmation of that? I can't wait, I'm a huge HP fan!!

Looking forward to reading more :thumbsup2

Well, the first thing that jumps out is the fact you don't see as many small chidren here. I think the resort has more of a tween, teen, or adult appeal to it. Sure there are things for small children to do, but they are not abundant like Walt Disney World. The target audiance appears to be families with teens. Everything from Halloween Horror Nights and hotel theming is geared towards older children to adults.

Some may disagree, but that's how I see it.

Boy, I sure hope it was a dried banana peel because, yes, we did eat it. It sure tasted like a dried banana. Maybe our mind was playing a trick on us and it was really plastic decoration..... It really did taste like dried banana chips.

Nope, didn't get official confirmation, but looking at the concept art of Harry Potter that is the position of the castle in comparison to the rest of the park. So, one would assume it is going to be the castle. :)

Also, a somewhat new attraction has opened in Suess Landing. It rides high above Suess Landing. I believe it opened in the Summer of 2007.
Picture105-2-1.jpg

I remember this ride from when I went to Islands of Adventure in 2003 :confused3 did it get a new name? I think it's been there the whole time

Actually, the ride infrastructure has been there since the park opened in 1999; however, it had never been used because of emergency evacuation limitations (so I heard). It just started running in the Summer of 2007.

Hi Everyone,

I just returned to the room for the evening. I was touring the resort and stopped for a drink at the Velvet Bar. I sat outside on the 3rd floor patio overlooking the pool. It is a beautiful night outside.

Here are a few photos I took while walking around tonight.

Emack & Bolio's. Ice Cream, Starbucks, snacks, and some breakfast items located on the first floor near the entrance to the pool area.

Inside the Hard Rock Store you will find these small screen TVs with live video feeds from various Hard Rock Cafes throughout the world. Pretty cool!

More to come tomorrow. Thanks for following along. :)

spectacular report Aaron!!

yes, that front of the line perk is fantastic....

so did you do the bilge barges? like swimming with your clothes on.....

Great pics Aaron. I don't know how you find time. It was hard for me to keep up with it all when I was down there.

Anyway, have a great rest of your trip!

Aaron, these trip reports are super and everything, but I think you need some help. Whether it's aiming the camera to include the whole fam or just general valet-ing, I'd be more than happy to bum a ride down to WDW every year... Just saying. I could investigate what you actually were served and ate  without CMs resenting you for asking...

Carry luggage...

Fight snakes....

*sigh* 43 days to my next trip.....

Hi Everyone,

We just returned from Universal Studios. We had a great day today. We are getting ourselves refreshed as we plan on dining at The Kitchen tonight (one of the Hard Rock's signature restaurants). I hear they have charcters on Wednesday night. I'll be back later tonight with pics and a description of our day.

By the way, my day started listening to the podcast this morning. I knew the Mousefest announcement was coming so I couldn't wait to hear what the team had in store for us. I about fall off my chair when I heard. My Wife Kim was asking me what was up. Pretty exciting stuff.

More to come later.

Thanks! And, yes, we got soaked. After a while you're like....Ah, whatever, just soak me.

Great pics Aaron. I don't know how you find time. It was hard for me to keep up with it all when I was down there.

Anyway, have a great rest of your trip!

The secret is my 200 words per minute typing. Actually, I've had a bit of a tough time this trip with my Sprint air card. It doesn't upload my photos as quickly as I would like. It's actually limited the amount of pictures I wanted to post.

That would be great J/K. Trust me, I need all the help I can get. 43 days? That's no time at all. You might as well say it's really 30 days. You can't count weekend days and holidays. Even weekdays aren't so bad. You might as well call it 8 days, really. :)

Thanks SO much for the pictures of the HP world coming along. That signage made me SO excited. 2010 is not that far away!!

And Thanks for taking time out of your vacation to let us know what you're up to! This is a wonderful TR!!

Wednesday, Oct. 22nd

Hi Everyone,

We are back from our dinner at The Kitchen. I'll give you more about our experience there in just a bit.

Our day started again in the Hard Rock Hotel club lounge. The lounge is called Club 7. I think because it's located on the 7th floor. The lounge is somewhat small and can get crowded; especially in the morning.

Here is a photo of the continental breakfast offerings this morning

We left the Hard Rock Hotel through the back by the pool. There is a walkway in the back that leads to City Walk and Universal Studios.

Here is a photo of us walking out the back of the hotel facing the wonderful pool area
Picture115-1.jpg

We arrived at Universal Studios in about 5 minutes. The walk is very short. The Hard Rock Hotel is the closest of the 3 on-site hotels to the theme parks.

Here are a couple of photos from our arrival to the theme park this morning.

The first note I want to make about the park today was the lack of streetmosphere. The only street acts we saw today were the Blues Brothers doing a skit next to their cop car. Other than that skit that was the only streetmosphere acts we saw today. It was rather disappointing; however, there could have been more, but we just didn't see it.

Attractions we experienced today were Shrek 4-D, Jimmy Neutron, Twister, Revenge of the Mummy, The Simpsons, Men in Black Alien Attack and Curious George's Play Area. We also saw some characters today; including sponge Bob, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy, and Curious George.

Here's a photo of the construction site of a new attraction called Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. A new cosaster scheduled to open in Spring of 2009 inside Universal Studios. Music and coasters seem to go well together.
Picture124-1.jpg

One of the newer attractions; The Simpsons, was a lot better than I anticipated. What really makes this attraction special is the screen technology. The video screen is more like a circle vision affect. It really surrounds you and gives you the feeling of reality. It is really very well done. I should also mention there are a number of Disney references during the attraction. I won't spoil it, but you will notice them while you travel through the attraction.

Here's a photo of the front of the Simpson's attraction

Another highlight of the day was a dessert I ordered at the San Francisco Baking Co. in the Ammityville section of the park. It's called a rasberry napoleon. It was off the charts good and if you are ever in Universal Studios I suggest going to this bakery and giving it a try.

Here is a picture of the rasberry napoleon. Very big and enough to share.

As we were leaving the park today I snapped this photo of two 1940's cars parked along the street

We left Universal Studios around 4:30PM today. The park closed at 5:00PM to prepare for Halloween Horror Nights.

We returned to our room and freshened up for our dinner at The Kitchen. The Kitchen is one of two signature restaurants at the Hard Rock Hotel. According to Universal's website characters are supposed to be in attendance between 6:00PM and 9:00PM. So I went ahead and made the reservation for tonight for that reason.

We arrived at The Kitchen at 6:30PM and were seated immediately. The restaurant is much like the decor around the Hard Rock Hotel. There are several references to rock & Roll and memorabellia all around the restaurant.

Here is a photo of some of the memorabellia
Picture127-2.jpg

One of the things that struck me after 15 minutes was there were no characters around. I asked our waiter about it and oddly enough he said "Oh yes, between 6:00PM and 9:00PM" and nothing more.

Onto our food. I wasn't feeling to adventurous tonight so I went with a salad wedge along with a cheeseburger and fries. Kim ordered a baked macaroni and cheese dish. We also both ordered margaritas; one frozen and the other on the rocks.

Here's a photo of my salad wedge
Picture128-2-1.jpg

After we ordered our food the Manager of the restaurant paid us a visit and said "I apologize sir, but there are no characters for tonight". He said they stopped having characters on Wednesday's; however, Universal has not taken this information off of their website, nor have they stopped advertising it yet. Well, that's a bummer. Oh well, we will live; however, I was more disappointed that Universal and Loews/Hard Rock don't seem to communicate well.

Our meals did come and we enjoyed the food. There really wasn't much wrong with it and everything tasted good.

After we ate our main courses our waiter came over with dessert offerings. He described all the desserts to us; however, my stomach told me not to do it. We all declined dessert; however, the waiter said the Manager of the restaurant wanted us to have dessert on him for the character mishap. He offered for us to pick a dessert to go. So we all picked a dessert and they boxed them up for us and put them in a bag. A very nice gesture by the restaurant.

Here's a photo of the dessert offerings
Picture129-2-1.jpg

The total amount of our bill including tip and a 10% annual pass discount was $65. Not bad considering we got free desserts and had two alcoholic beverages. If you are considering dining here I'd tell you to try something else. There are so many other choices at Universal and I'm not sure if I had only 2 or 3 meals during a vacation I'd choose this place. You may want to try Mama Dellas at the Portofino or Bubba Gumps at City Walk.

After dinner we came back to our room. Anna and Kim decided they wanted to head to City Walk and catch a movie. I believe they went to see Beverly Hills Chawawa. I plan on relaxing the rest of the evening. I may walk around the resort or head out to the hot tub.
Well, I'm in podcast chat right now. I might as well stay there. LOL! :)

Tomorrow we plan on heading to both parks and hitting some of our favorite attractions. We also have a character breakfast lined up for the morning with Spiderman, and Thing 1 and Thing 2 over at Islands of Adventure. I will provide a report on that experience tomorrow.

Lastly, I wanted to show you some photos of our room on the 7th floor.

How are you going to get that tiger home?!?!:lmao:

OMG! There's a TIGER on your bed!

:scared1: Oh my god! You're right! RUN!!! That thing is going to be the death of me. We won it at Islands of Adventure. It only took me $5 to win it. Why did I even play? :sad2: $5 to play, but maybe $50 to ship. I think it might find a home here in Orlando if it costs that much to ship. :)

How are you going to get that tiger home?!?!:lmao:

Not sure yet. I may have to buy it a seat on the plane...Yea right!

Devouring your wonderful trip report Aaron! I've always done Disney in Orlando and I might have to change that fact! Good to see you are having a good time and can't wait to hear more!!
