My wife and I have started talking about adopting a child (Probably China or Korea). Has anyone on the board gone through the adoption process? If you have, can you share your experiences with us.

Hi! We have just adopted domestically ... we had an AWESOME experience. This kind of just fell into our laps. We had planned to adopt from China and have heard lots of good things about the programs there. I know you have come to the right place. There are lots of CB DIS'ers that have adopted. PM me if you have any questions! Good Luck ... it is really a roller coaster ride, but I can assure you, once you take one look at that child, nothing else matters!

Dh and I have not adopted, but watched DSIL go through the adoption process. She also was planning a foreign adoption when a domestic one literally fell into her lap. It was a trial, what with the birth father being a real *blanketybleepbleep* and the baby being extremely premature. BUT other than that..it was an easy process and DNephew LittleBitty is the light of their lives and ours. :)

Dh and I are also talking about it, very seriously. I'd take any words of wisdom I could get too. I saved some websites the other day, but don't know how to link them on here. I started with the website someone on the Dis posted the other day and it was precious.org.

We adopted internationally earlier this year, it was a long journey but of course very worth it!
Email if you have any particular questions.

My SIL & BIL have adopted 2 little girsl....one from Cina & one from Korea.................pm me if you need any info.......I could put you in touch with them.

I haven't adopted, but I know several people who have adopted children from Russia. Sadly, they said it was much easier than adopting here in the US!

We have adopted three babies domestically. I just want to link you to a recent thread about adoption here on the CB that may be of interest to you (plus, I don't want to type my story out again!!!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_1_3v.gif' border=0></a>)

Adoption thread

Best thing to keep in mind, it is not IF you will ever have a child...it is just WHEN you will have your child. Best to you!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_1_68v.gif' border=0></a>

We adopted our Korean son almost 12 years ago. We used Holt International--based in Oregon but with offices throughout the US. It has been around since the late 1950's.

:sunny:

My cousins adopted a boy and girl from the Holt Agency, I think they have an office in Trenton, NJ, or somewhere in NJ. But they do have some rules unless they changed, don't quote me, but I think for Korea its 40 and under and if you have a second marriage it must be 5 years, my cousins had to wait a while as it was her second marriage, first guy left her because of the baby issue. I think CED mom in NJ could help you too. Hope she sees this thread. At Holt, the first child you cannot have a preference for, boy or girl, but if you adopt a second child you can. They will bring the babies to the us with an escort. It was alot of paperwork but they sent her pictures etc. She also goes to a picnic each year in nj which a korean church sponsors with all the holt kids and I think she goes to another holt event. She says its great for all the parents and kids to be together. Good luck and God Bless, the long journey will definetly be worth it. She did go the private route but no one picked them. I think because of their careers and modest home. But now they are blessed with 2 adorable kids.

We have adopted both domestically and internationally. Our youngest two were adopted from Russia almost four years ago. Feel free to PM me with any and all questions you may have. I love to tell the story. BTW, the whole process took roughly 9 months for the Russian adoption.

Best of luck!!!

My oldest son (who is 6 today!) was adopted at birth. His was a domestic agency adoption and we only waited 5 months! Feel free to PM me with any questions.

We adopted two DDs from Colombia. They are now 13 and 15 and came home shortly after birth. If you're interested in Latin American adoption, there is a group called the Latin American Parents Association (LAPA) in NJ that would be a great place to start. PM if you have any questions.

Good luck:D
