When you come home we should have a refferal!
Hi everyone! I just went through and read all 50 pages! I really enjoyed reading all of your stories, they were all special![]()
I am no where near being able to adopt, I am 21![]()
but... as long as I can remember, I have wanted to adopt from out of the country. When I was little I would say to my mom "I'm going to adopt when I get older because there are to many kids without mommy's and daddy's" and she use to say "you will change your mind when you get older." Well, I have not changed my mind and I know I want to adopt from China.
I have 1 question though:
I have a HUGE problem with flying. I have flown several times, one was 6 hours but it was really bad, I mean BAD. I don't think I would be able to go to China. Are there any programs where they bring the child to you? I tried finding one but I couldn't. I would love more then anything to fly to China and pick up my child and see her country but I just don't think I would make it unless they knocked me outit's sad but true.
Thanks everyone for sharing your stories

Hi!
I am a reader of this thread too but I haven't posted. From the research I've done, it appears that Korea and Guatamala allow agencies that use escorts, so it is not always necessary to fly. I can relate. I always said I would adopt and have never flown and don't plan on it. For many reasons, DH and I have chosen to go through our county's Foster/Adopt program.![]()

Congratulations. We found out we were DTC to China in Epcot while at the China pavillion. That was over 20 months ago!

Yes we should finally see Princess Aurora in 2 weeks. We are starting to get excited around here.
I have friends that adopted two children from Korea and they did not have to travel there, the children were brought to our state by escorts. I don't know about Guatemala, the only people I know personally who adopted from there did travel, in fact, they traveled twice. I'm also pretty sure that I saw an episode of "Adoption Stories" (on Discovery Health Channel, I believe), that followed a couple adopting from India, and the child was brought to the U.S. by an escort as well.
Unfortunately, lucy_love, I don't think that China allows any adoptions without spending time in country, but you may be able to another country that does. Or, since it will be a while until you're ready to adopt, you could try to work through your fear of flying. I have heard of books and even classes that are very helpful in doing so. I also know people who take a valium every time they fly, there's nothing wrong with that, if that's what you need. Good luck!![]()

Hi lucy_love! We are adopting from China...
I'm sure that there are books and classes that can help you work through your fears. I don't even think about the flight to and from China anymore. I think about being in China and meeting my daughter...and then I think about her first steps on US soil. The flights just don't matter right now...lol...I will probably take something to calm me down for the flight over, just because i'll be WIRED, but i'm quite certain that my daughter will keep me plenty occupied for the flight home!
And yes, as of right now, you must go to China and spend about 2-3 weeks there (depending on the Province that your child is in). They do not offer any kind of escort service to bring your child here to the US.
