Adoption Updates

Congratulations! When you come home we should have a refferal! Have a great trip and be safe.

Hi everyone! I just went through and read all 50 pages! I really enjoyed reading all of your stories, they were all special :)

I am no where near being able to adopt, I am 21 :goodvibes

but... as long as I can remember, I have wanted to adopt from out of the country. When I was little I would say to my mom "I'm going to adopt when I get older because there are to many kids without mommy's and daddy's" and she use to say "you will change your mind when you get older." Well, I have not changed my mind and I know I want to adopt from China.

I have 1 question though:
I have a HUGE problem with flying. I have flown several times, one was 6 hours but it was really bad, I mean BAD. I don't think I would be able to go to China. Are there any programs where they bring the child to you? I tried finding one but I couldn't. I would love more then anything to fly to China and pick up my child and see her country but I just don't think I would make it unless they knocked me out :sad2: it's sad but true.

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories

Hi!

I am a reader of this thread too but I haven't posted. From the research I've done, it appears that Korea and Guatamala allow agencies that use escorts, so it is not always necessary to fly. I can relate. I always said I would adopt and have never flown and don't plan on it. For many reasons, DH and I have chosen to go through our county's Foster/Adopt program.:)

::yes:: I have friends that adopted two children from Korea and they did not have to travel there, the children were brought to our state by escorts. I don't know about Guatemala, the only people I know personally who adopted from there did travel, in fact, they traveled twice. I'm also pretty sure that I saw an episode of "Adoption Stories" (on Discovery Health Channel, I believe), that followed a couple adopting from India, and the child was brought to the U.S. by an escort as well.

Unfortunately, lucy_love, I don't think that China allows any adoptions without spending time in country, but you may be able to another country that does. Or, since it will be a while until you're ready to adopt, you could try to work through your fear of flying. I have heard of books and even classes that are very helpful in doing so. I also know people who take a valium every time they fly, there's nothing wrong with that, if that's what you need. Good luck! :shamrock: :goodvibes

Hi lucy_love! We are adopting from China...

I'm sure that there are books and classes that can help you work through your fears. I don't even think about the flight to and from China anymore. I think about being in China and meeting my daughter...and then I think about her first steps on US soil. The flights just don't matter right now...lol...I will probably take something to calm me down for the flight over, just because i'll be WIRED, but i'm quite certain that my daughter will keep me plenty occupied for the flight home! :)

And yes, as of right now, you must go to China and spend about 2-3 weeks there (depending on the Province that your child is in). They do not offer any kind of escort service to bring your child here to the US.

We have officially been placed on our agency's waitlist, as we got our immigration approval last month. The procedure with Vietnam (with our agency, anyway) is a little different, we don't submit our dossier until much closer to our referral because the documents expire in 6 months. The irony is we were on vacation at WDW- we were at dinner at the GF when we got the call about our 797C- our neighbor had been under strict instructions to check the mail daily and fax in the form should it have come while we were gone, and it DID! In order to commemmorate the occasion, we got our girl a dress from the shop at the GF. Anything for my little princess LOL.

Congratulations. We found out we were DTC to China in Epcot while at the China pavillion. That was over 20 months ago!

I believe that Korea and Ethiopia will escort your child to the US so you wouldn't have to fly. It's such an important part of the process for us though, to get a feel of where the baby is from and the culture there.

I think that you will only have time to worry on the way to China- once you have your baby and are on the plane, there won't be any time to worry because you will have your baby and will have to keep him/her occupied on the plane :)

Yes we should finally see Princess Aurora in 2 weeks. We are starting to get excited around here.

Congratulations. We found out we were DTC to China in Epcot while at the China pavillion. That was over 20 months ago!

We found out we were DTC while at Disney too. That was July 2005! We haven't been to Disney since... our next trip is with our princess.

On an unhappy note because it has taken so rediculously long to get our refferal (we thought we would get it the last 3 months!) we are going to have to cancel out WDW trip in Sept. No free dining for us :sad2:
We decided that it would be cutting it too close to our trip to China. I know we are getting our baby and that is amazing. Obviously that is more important. However after 2 years of the crap that we have went through and putting EVERYTHING on hold, it just fugures that China would ruin something else we were excited about!

I just updated my blog with pics of out trip to DLR and our camping trip this past week. Just though you all might enjoy them.

Thanks for the information! I actually went to the doctor about my fear and he gave me a script for generic Xanax. I took one and hour before the flight and I was still frekaing out so I took another one and it did nothing :confused3 :

So 2 Xanax did nothing for me, if I end up choosing China I think I will take those classes and work on it because adopting from China is important to me :)

Thanks so much! I think when the time gets closer I will take some classes or something. I wish the age wasn't 30 :guilty: I would like to adpot when I am 27 or 28, oh well I guess I will have to wait from an angel from china :cloud9:

I have wanted to adopt since I was 15. 17 years later I will finally see our little China Princess. Of couse we also have Princess Lillymonster who we adopted from Haiti. It does happen it just seems like forever to get there!
