Adoption Updates

We're adopting from China (boy or girl), hoping for referral around the first of the year and travel in March! :)

What beautiful children and families here. Thanks for sharing!

Isabella's adoption is final - at last.

Oh, Praise God!!! :cheer2: I'm so happy to hear that!

My cousin and her DH left yesterday for Ukraine! They've been waiting for a travel date for so long. They are adopting a 14 year old girl. They have 3 teenaged boys, so it should be interesting :) I'm so excited for them. We are considering Ukraine ourselves, when our DDs are older.

Laurie :)

We started our journey in January and are hoping to get our Dossier To China by the end of November. We are getting our fingerprints next Friday and our 2nd physicals (China's version) next Thursday. We are taking our pictures this weekend to send with the Dossier and we have just about everything else. Those of you who have been there know that everything has to be certified, notarized and then State Sealed. So after all that the Dossier will go to China and it will be a waiting game. We are hoping for a referel and travel in the Spring.

Our China Doll has been named Ariel-Jadeyn. DH and I say that when we look in her eyes we will know whether she is Ariel, Jadeyn, Ariel-Jadeyn, or A.J. Right now I don't care I just want to bring her home!

These updates bring back memories! Our ds--who will turn 13 this month!!!!---came home to us at 3 1/2 months from Korea. I remember all the paperwork and waiting and wondering and being anxious for updates and pictures!

Congratulations to all of you! :flower:

This brings back memories for me too. Our ds is 18 and he, too, came to us at 3 1/2 months from Korea. He's a freshman in college now -- 300 miles from home. Time goes by so fast. It seems like only yesterday that we were filling out forms and waiting for our referral.

Congratulations to all of you - it's a fantastic journey!

Congratulations to all the other families!

We've been home since June 11 with our two sons from Kaliningrad Russia!

The boys are 14mos old now.. and just simply amazing.. we wake up every morning excited to share the day..

and usually as I'm falling asleep it hits me.. "i have two sons!!"

The waiting can be hard.. (hard isnt' strong enough).. we got our referral on 12/21/04. but due to changes in Russian law we didn't get them home until June (should have been March!)

Now that's all water under the bridge.. and everything worked out perfect!

Congrats to all in your various stages of adoption.

Our girls are both from China: DD6 from Nanning, adopted at about 9 months old, and DD4 from Guangdong Province, adopted at age 1.5. Both through Holt International, and they're the greatest. (I meant Holt, but of course the daughters are the greatest too!)

If anybody wants to hear stories about months of paperchasing, 14-hour plane rides (including the lost Twilight Zone episode, Poop At 50,000 Feet), interviews with officials who want to practice their English, Mr. Toad's Wild Bus Ride From Guangzhou To Hong Kong, and how it's all worth it in the end, let me know.

Hi everyone.
We're in the process of adopting from China too. We're adopting a waiting child from Yunnan Province named Jie Hua-- to which we're planning to add the English name Madalyn. Our paperwork should go to China this month, and our agency told us anytime from 2 to 4 months after since she's "special needs".

It's great to find other disers/adoptive parents.

POB14- I'm very interested in hearing travel stories. We're taking our two older kids with us, and want to be very prepared before we get to China-- it'll make my obsessive planning for Disney vacations look like a joke.

I do! :)

DH and I haven't formally begun the adoption process yet, but we know it's something that we really want to do. We have some debt that we want paid off before we begin the process, so we've got at least another year before we can get the ball rolling! We're hoping to adopt a baby girl from China. Anyone have any dealings with Great Wall China Adoptions?

Hi, all. I am enjoying reading your posts and hearing about the anticipation and completion of your adoptions.

We are parents of :earsgirl: :earsboy: twins from Russia, now seven. Both kids weighed less than three pounds at birth, had rickets, TB and were developmentally off the charts in all areas. Today they are thriving in school, athletic, perfectly healthy and happy as can be.

Our travels took us to some remote areas and we explored every possible place that we could while we were in Russia. We tried unusual ethnic foods (Ukranian, Mongolian, etc.) explored the museums, Kremlin and churches and met as many people as we could. Priceless experience.

My best advice is to double every time frame that you are given, go with the flow and savor every moment of your trips. When you give birth, your labor is physical; when you adopt it's emotional - and it lasts longer. In the end' it's all worth it a million times over.

By the way, one of the best moments of your life will be those first few moments that you walk down Main Street at MK and watch their little faces, because you will know how far they have come (and how little they once had).

We're going to our first informational meeting on Sunday! As I said before, it will be at least a year or so before we can officially begin the process, but I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!! I've been reading other people's blogs and websites about their process and it just makes me want it even more! I think i'm driving DH nuts talking non-stop about China! I've even begun researching names!!!

Am I pitiful? lol

Wow, seeing this thread after I just got into work after attending our 2nd to last (hopefully) of 3 and a half years of court hearings to adopt our foster son, is making me cry! I was unexpectedly put on the stand and questioned extensively by two attorneys and the judge at the last one, so the process has been quite stressful and daunting but so worth it. We are the lucky ones! He is the light of our life!!!

I think just about every fountain in Disney has a coin it with a wish for his adoption to be final...can't wait to celebrate there!

Also, he is safe in our arms due to an angel's anonymous report, so please don't ever hesitate to make a call to your CPS if you have suspicions of neglect or abuse.

Thanks for letting me share. Congratulations to everyone, and hugs to any of you who started your jouney on the infertility rollercoaster.

That picture is adorable!!

Infertility...that's what has led us to this point! We haven't completely given up hope of having our own though! We've just both realized that we want to be parents and while we can dump tons of money into fertility treatments, there is no guarantee that we will have a child in our arms in the end. We talked a lot about it and decided that we would still try for our own, but that the money would be better spent adopting a child of our own. I just want to be a mommy! And it's heartbreaking every time I get a negative test...Adoption is where our hearts are leading us. :)

Hugs to you as well!! I hope that the adoption is final soon!!

We found out today that our dossier was sent to China yesterday. Since ours is a special needs adoption, we could be traveling as soon as 3 months, but I'm not being overly optimistic and I'm planning for 6 to 9 months.

Brandie: I don't know about Great Wall personally, but have heard positive things about the agency. And if your husband thinks you're driving him crazy now, just wait until you start doing the paperwork! It only gets crazier the closer you get.

That's awesome that your Dossier is on it's way! How very exciting that you could be on your way in just 3 short months!!

And I can't wait for the craziness to begin! :)

This is just amazing - thier adoption is going faster than they dared to hope :goodvibes
--------
WOW! We spent the first night in a flat that Victor arranged for us. It
was comfortable but very unpretentious. Yesterday was unbelievable. We met
Yulia about eight-thirty for a nine o'clock appointment at the NAC. Yulia
was awesome. She seemed to get ahead of every other facilitator regardless
of when we arrived. We waited in the lobby for the first group to be called
in with the psychologist. Yulia said the psychologist we were assigned was
not the nicest, but she seemed great to us. We had been prepared to answer
a lot of questions, but she pulled out a piece of paper with Lyessa's
picture on it and asked "is this the girl that you want to adopt?" we said
yes and that was it. The director of the NAC then came in and told us that
she had given us an appointment quickly because of Lyessa's age. She wanted
us to know that she had done something special and that we really should
have been given a date in 2006. I held back asking why she had take a four
week vacation and then another week without making any appointments. See I
am really learning how to respect the Ukrainian authorities.

After leaving the NAC we went back to the Sense office to wait and see if we
could get the letter of recommendation in the same day. Yulia said that it
would be unusual to get both things done in the same day. So we waited in
their office, sleeping on the couch, while Yulia called the attorney and
persisted in getting a time to go back and get the letter of referral. At
3:00 pm Yulia said we should go to the NAC and wait to see if the letter had
been prepared. When we arrived she pushed her way to the front of the line
while we sat in the same chairs that we waited in that morning. Shortly she
came out telling us that she had the letter (only God could have worked that
out so quickly). Yulia then said that we need to get to the inspector's
office to get her approval in order to see Lyessa that day. Again she said
that it would be very hard to make it across town in time to meet with the
inspector before 5:00 pm when they close. As we were leaving the NAC, Yuri
came flying up to pick us up to head off to the inspector's office. As we
headed to the inspector Yuri continued to call them to make sure that they
were in for the afternoon. No answer on either the office number or the
inspector's cell phone. We went anyway and when we arrived Yuri went in
while we waited in the lobby. He came back out and told us that the
inspector was getting her hair cut (at work) and that she would see him as
soon as hey were finished. He was called back in and we heard a lot of loud
voices but soon came out saying that she had approved us to meet with
Lyessa. The inspector knew Lyessa's grandmother well. It seems that
Merislava (Lyessa's grandmother) had been trying for years to get Lyessa on
the adoption list and therefore they knew each other quite well. Again
God's timing was better than we could have ever imagined.

We left the inspector's office in search of Merislava's apartment. Yuri
kept trying to call her on the phone but the line was busy. We found the
building and realized that we needed to buy some of the customary gifts to
make a Ukrainian visit so we looked for a market to purchase a cake, drink,
fruit and of course an odd number of roses. Yuri finally got through on the
phone and we headed back to the apartment building. When we arrived we were
greeted at the entrance by the smiling face of our sweet Lyessa. She
escorted us to the apartment were we waited on grandmother to get back from
her own quick shopping in preparation for our visit. When Merislava came up
to the apartment she was smiling and so happy to meet us. She hugged us as
though we had been her family for years.

We gave Merislava the gifts and she prepared a dinner for us while we talked
to Lyessa. Lyessa then invited a friend that she wanted us to meet named
Ann. Ann was a cute little redhead that lived in the same apartment
building. We all ate dinner together while Yuri discussed the items he
needed to complete the paperwork for the adoption with Merislava. What a
great evening. Again God showed us that He is in control of this adoption.
Without His lining up all of these details there is no way we could have
accomplished it on our own.

To top the evening off Merislava gave us a gift that she had purchased for
us. It was teapot with six cups. She made sure that we knew she bought six
cups because our family now has six people. She asked that every time we
used the teapot we remember her. She is quite a remarkable woman to be
giving up her granddaughter that she loves so much so that Lyessa can have a
better future. God is so good.

We left the apartment with Yuri driving us to find the Stemple's residence.
They are the missionaries that we were introduced to through FamilyLife.
They have opened up their home to us and it was been incredible. We had a
great night getting to know Semp (the wife). Her husband Scott is off on a
Boy Scout camp out and will not be home until Sunday. Too bad I didn't
bring my uniform. This may be my only chance to ever be a part of a
Ukrainian scout troop. I have to admit the bed was a lot better than the
tent so I am happy to be right where I am.

Please pray for us that the God will keep the pace going. We are so
thankful for what He has done thus far.

Here's a link to a picture of their future daughter, Lyessa. She is an orphan living with her grandmother, who knows she cannot continue to provide for her, and wants her to have a better life. I can't imagine how much she loves her to be able to let her go...what an incredibly difficult, unselfish thing to do. If you scroll down from the group pic, there's a better one, she's #4.
