Adoption question

I have a friend whose parents are in the process of adopting a 2 year old boy. However, they are planning to get divorced but will not finalize the divorce until after the adoption is complete. Could they get in trouble for that? Would the dad (his wife plans to leave him with the baby) be better off adopting on his own? Thanks in advance.

The couple will need to talk to the adoption agency and their lawyers for a definitive answer. . .the sooner the better, I would think!
