adoption dinner

Just a thought and please ignore me if its too intrusive. I cannot tell from your post whether its pretty much a given and she will say yes or if there is a possibility that this could hit her on a very emotional level. And of course it is NONE of our business.

The only reason I bring it up is that if the question is going to stir a lot of emotions (maybe she will fill a little guilty regarding biological parents etc), or you are not sure about what she will answer, it could be a good idea to take her out before the trip, ask her the question, and then have a surprise dinner CELEBRATING, that she has agreed to be part of the family, once you get there. That way if you wanted you could even have a cake made up ahead or some such thing, and it will just be pure celebration.

I agree with this post. When my Dh was going to propose, he had it all planned out to do it on the board at the baseball. He started dropping hints, so I let him know I would die of embarrassment if he did it publicly. So, the board at the baseball was out, by the campfire by our tent was in. You don't want to turn something cool into something embarrassing!

My first thought when I started reading was 50's Prime Time Cafe. Everyone there is related to you! It's a fun restaurant and not too serious.

I have to say O'hana despite the noise level. As Lilo told Stich-"O'hana means family."

Exactly! 'Ohana is the perfect place! Family! Watch Lilo and Stitch if you can.

If not there then maybe Tony's Town Square since that's where Lady and the Tramp decided to become a family.

Prime Time would be good for a hark back to the old time families.

I just wanted to say that I think that is amazing!! I say any place will be special and memorable.. She may like the ambiance of San Angel or maybe sushi at CG or the laid back tropical ambiance of Ohana. Dinner at CRT maybe?

What disnutt said!

As a former foster mom, I know what you are taking on, and I'm impressed. I took my 19 year old with the idea that she HAD to see Disney World before she got too grown up, and she loved O'hana. She's Stitch, and I'm Lilo; it fits us.

Just follow her lead and let her be a little kid. We spent a lot of time in lines for characters and not as much on wild rides. Surprised me for my tough, overly-mature young lady, but I guess it makes sense. Have a great trip!

I say that you go with where you think she'd have the most fun and then work with the Disney people to make it special. Whether it is an afternoon tea, CRT, a steak dinner, or a themed place, between you and Disney, you can make it memorable and personal. Congrats to all of you!

What a great idea this is. I love the idea of CRT but any of the suggested restaurants will be memorable.

Congratulations. My family is blessed with 2 adorable kiddos through adoption and your post brings tears to my eyes. What a special moment this will be for your family.

adoption is something we are already talking about and we are all on board, I just want to make it even more special and official ask her and what better place than Disney, the happiest place on earth.

Congratulations! My older sister is adopted as are two of my cousins. I guess it depends on her and her personality. If she's a girly girl then I love the idea of CRT and asking her to officially be your princess. But I also know that not all girls that age would be into that! I think Cali Grill just before the fireworks would be amazing as well. Definately involve Disney as they will help you make it as special as it can be.

I think it is great. Too often older children in foster care miss out on the opportunity to be adopted.

This would truly make Disney even more the happiest place on earth. Just think, she will get Mickey and mom and dad!

Happy Ohana!

This is so wonderful. I would go for California Grill. You can watch the fireworks and have a relaxful, nice, and delicious dinner. Other signature restuarants like Flying Fish Cafe and Citricos would be nice. I agree that it would be special to have it at CRT but you don't want to be continuously interupted by characters; however, for a normal meal it is perfectly fine. Whichever restaurant you choose this meal will definitely be magical! :wizard: Best of luck with your new, extended family. This is so sweet and special!

Oh, I'm just so excited for you! (2 of my 3 kiddos are adopted).

I'm sure whatever restaurant you decide will be just perfect!!!

I took my 6-year-old DS on the Pirates & Pals Fireworks Cruise last year, and on that same cruise a recently-adopted 9-year-old and his new mom were just celebrating his recent adoption. His story was explained over the microphone on the boat. The boy got to sit at the head of the boat and help out our "pirate". It was so cool!

Okay I am definitely not a girly girl, I prefer pirates to princes and swords to magic wands. However I will say Cinderella would be a beautiful and fun way to go. At the same time Ohana is perfect. I would even work in the "Ohana means Family" with the engraved jewelry idea. I didn't find breakfast overly loud, and we had three little boys with us. As far as interruptions at awkward times by characters, all this takes is a conversation with the CMs before hand. They can tell you about when the characters will start coming around, maybe get you into one of the tables that get visited last. When we went last time they worked with our family very well for some special needs and an event we were working out.

all great ideas! really any will be great!!!

I still like my CRT idea for dinner. Unless it has changed in the last couple of years, I would like to note that at dinner the characters do not keep coming around to the table. Cinderella greets in the downstairs lobby with picture. Then the Fairy Godmother and mice do a show and come around once during a seating. So it is more peaceful than most character meals.

AND, while I respect the Rusty Scupper, you CAN see fireworks from the windows. (also, noting the glass is the thick kind.) NOT the whole display...stuff that shoots up and some of the big ones. Obviously, it does not replace seeing the show from outside. But it, imho, is very magical. My best Disney memory comes from just such a dinner there!!!

Again, bless you and good luck on the official start of your new family!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS ! And... my thoughts exactly ! Citricos, The Flying Fish, Yachtsman's Steakhouse and/or The Grand Floridian Cafe' would also be up for consideration....

adoption is something we are already talking about and we are all on board, I just want to make it even more special and official ask her and what better place than Disney, the happiest place on earth.

...then it's pretty much a "given" that things will go in a "positive" manner (that really is soooo fantastic ! :lovestruc ).
So I would still recommend any of the place listed above, but I also must agree with other PPs about "50's Prime-Time" :thumbsup2 at DHS. There really is no other place in "the happiest place on earth" :tink: that screams "family" :grouphug: more then there.
And, again, I know - from seeing it happen a few times while we have been eating there - that they will go out of their way for you and do something "special" if you wish.... I've seen them do some really "crazy" (in a good way) things for families, there.... :wizard:

Congratulations on the adoption... I think no matter where you eat it will be a special time for everyone.

Cinderella's Royal Table. They have a part during the seating where everyone wishes on their "wishing star" (they actually give you a plastic star). You could then tell her that your wish would come true if she would oficially become your daughter. Anywhere you do it, it will be magical! Good for you!
