Adoption Announcement

One more adoptive parent here. Like everyone else said, wait to share with the world. BUT...finding a group of soon-to-be-adoptive moms online is the best advice I could ever give someone. We're a family who waited MUCH longer than expected. Almost five years from when we first signed with an agency to when we brought our daughter home. I connected with other waiting moms early in our wait and those women became like family. They were the only ones who truly understood what we were going through. They are still some of my best friends - we're scattered around the country but I've been lucky to meet up with many of them in person. One lives fairly close to me and our daughters have now become close friends - it always cracks me up when they talk about how they're going to have a playdate and their moms can come too...umm, it's your MOMS who want to see each other!

One other idea - we did tell more than just a few friends and family. For us, it was mostly because we were adopting internationally and the program was very predictable when we started - 7-9 month wait - and I was a teacher. I didn't want to leave a class after a few months. So I took a leave of absence from work...which meant a lot of people knew. I loved the phrase "paper pregnant" - somewhere I even have a shirt that says "forgive me, I'm paper pregnant". You could take a cute picture with a sign that says "we're paper pregnant" to share with your inner circle.
