hello all!

well my daily binge reads of the blow by blow in court coverage of the vallow trial has come to an end with the jury coming to a verdict after just 7 hours of deliberation. i have to say-i thought she was guilty but didn't know if it met the letter of the law on the individual charges so i went into reading the coverage with an open mind to see what my decision would have been as a juror. no question about it, the state of idaho did a phenomenal job of investigating and presenting a mountain of electronic evidence (i now know way more about 'the cloud' and cell phone pings and what legally constitutes conspiracy than i ever dreamed i could). that they put all this information forward and explained it in a manner that a non techie person like myself could understand was very impressive. that her defense was presented with all of this and opted to not call a single witness and immediately rest their case was telling on their part. i hope this verdict brings some comfort to the families of those murdered.

this trial makes me VERY much more interested in following the idaho student murders when it goes to trial-the electronic trail aspects are fascinating and from the little the state of idaho has publicly released (major gag order in place) we know they were pursuing leads on the accused for weeks before his arrest.

I did not follow the Vallow case very closely but I am glad there is justice for those innocent murdered children.

I am very interested in the Brian Kohlberger case. When that comes to trial I will definitely be watching.

Well, this week I finally acquired the flowers for the front and back doors of my house so that those are looking cheery for the outdoor season. I planted my garden today and hubby brought out the patio umbrellas and set those up. Our mulch was spread this week and the beds were edged. We are ready for summer *IF* we could get some nice weather!!!!

I’m so happy to hear that she was found guilty. I’m going to have to look into the details of the case presented you have made it sound even more interesting that the Netflix special. I remember the search for the kids on the news and then finding her and Chad living it up in Hawaii, definitely not how most people would act if their kids were missing.

I love flowers so much, they make everything happier.

Today was a fun day, my son graduated from high school. There wasn’t much to the ceremony but it seemed like it took forever since there about 500 kids in his graduating class so just the procession in and walking across the stage took so long.

Totally agree!!! Several years ago our high school marching band started doing a fundraiser where you paid $20 for a punch card to a local greenhouse (a *huge* retail store type greenhouse). Every month you can go there and get a specific free seasonal item -- small potted plant, hanging basket, large pumpkin, poinsettia, etc. The first month of the promotion, the free item was a bouquet of fresh cut flowers. I got mine, cut them down to fit in a small mason jar, put them on my kitchen windowsill, and just *loved* the joy they brought me every day. I loved them so much that the next month when I went back to get my next free item, I also bought a bouquet of flowers (I fell right into their evil plan!!! :D ). Again, joy every day. After those died, I just picked up a much less expensive but equally nice bouquet at our grocery store when I did my weekly shopping. And I've done that ever since (except for during the Covid shutdown when I didn't want my husband to know I was escaping he house once a week to run into the grocery store. He didn't want anyone in the house going out in public at that point and thought I was having all the groceries delivered. But that's a whole other story...I *need* to pick out my own fresh foods!! :) ) I absolutely love having fresh cut flowers in the house all the time. I currently have 2 bouquets right now -- my usual bouquet and another bouquet that my daughter got from a friend of hers after her orchestra concert the other night. She could care less about flowers and while she appreciated the gift, as soon as we got in the car she handed the flowers to me and said, "Do your thing. I don't need these." I'm happy to have them. When she was performing in the musical at her high school several weeks ago, she got flowers every night. My house looked like a flower shop. I was in heaven!

Today, I'm celebrating Mother's Day by shipping my DS26 off to London. He actually left yesterday and has arrived. This is actually a really, really big deal to me--he's autistic (would have been Asperger's if he's been diagnosed earlier). He's high functioning, but actually, his anxiety and depression are much more impactful on his life. At any rate, this is his study abroad--only for a week, and they're studying crime-fighting/detecting methods in England versus the US. A highlight for him will be doing a "Jack the Ripper" tour.

I'm so excited and pleased for him that he went out of his comfort zone to do this. This is HUGE for him. I'm also nervous and on hot standby in case I have to make an emergency trip to London.

Apart from that, my Mother's Day will consist of getting my car washed, some manner of takeout for dinner, and getting a fancy on-sale Publix cake (pick-up is at noon). And my daughter got me flowers--Bluezy is right, they DO brighten a room!

I'm sure I speak for quite a few, but thanks to the mods for letting this bit of fun exustm

That is awesome for your DS. 🥰🥰🥰

That is awesome!!! It must make you "bloom" with pride on this Mother's Day :flower1: I hope he has the time of his life in London! My DD22 is high functioning autistic and has an intellectual disability. She is so funny. She loves to go to work (currently part-time at Bath and Body Works stocking products) and she is so excited to be working today on Mother's Day :rotfl2:She is sensory seeking and just loves sniffing all the scents.

Yeah, DS26 had an "anxiety buddy" for the flight to Heathrow. She's a regular student that he knew from last semester, she just had a fear of flying. So, they met up at the Charlotte Airport and were sitting together on the long flight. She also asked him to go on the Jack the Ripper tour with her, so now DS26 is in LOVE!

We had DH fly with him from our home airport to Charlotte, since he only had a ~45 minute time to catch the flight to Heathrow. It turned out, the second plane left 2.5 hours late, so he had PLENTY of time, but we didn't know that. He'll fly home from Charlotte on his own, but we figure, no big deal, there are several flights a day, and there isn't the tight turnaround. Worst case, we could drive to Charlotte from home.

There are ~12 students total on the trip, and only 1 other guy. Mostly, they're staying on a college campus (with day trips), one night in London at the end. He lives at home, but commutes to the local campus twice a week, so I figure he should feel familiar/secure there.

What a wonderful experience for your son. I think it’s important to challenge ourselves to get out of our comfort zone every once and awhile. My elderly neighbor joined us for Mother’s Day dinner and brought a guava cheesecake from Publix and it was delicious so I hope yours was too.

That they do! I started some of my summer pots this weekend, and then had to cover them last night because of frost. I will keep adding in small amounts over the next few weeks. I could dig in dirt all day. I wish I figured this out 20 years ago and pursued a career. Now its my retirement goal to work part time in a greenhouse. Our local greenhouse has a huge coleus that was staked and trimmed like a little tree. It was a zoo when I was there, so I didn't want to bother the owner questioning him about it, but I will try to catch up with him sometime soon. I was curious how old it was (I kind of want to try this now).

Our cows are also being tormented by something in the pasture at night and had us up from 2-3am as they went through the temporary fence (we split a big pasture into smaller ones to control the grass they are eating) in a stampede. (17 mommas and babies). I did finally get a glimpse of what sets them off and it appears to be a coyote. The first time I spotted it last week, I caught eyes in my flashlight but they disappeared over the hill quickly. Last night, it stood and watched me for a while and moved twice across the pasture. Still not close enough to get an exact look but the movements have me leaning that direction. I guess they will be taking their nights locked in the barnyard until further notice. While we were bringing them in last night, I saw a big fox posing on top of a pile of rock at the edge of the barnyard. Pretty cool to see, but I would rather be asleep then seeing creatures of the night in their habitat.

QueenIsabella The London trip sounds so great. Sending good vibes to your son that he is having a good trip and for safe travels home.

He texted his dad this morning, looking for a copy of his itinerary or something. I wasn't in the loop--whatever the issue was, DH managed to handle it, and he was on his way. The bigger deal was, while DH sat down to send whatever, our cat settled in his lap, so DH was then immobilized until the cat went on his way. So, if THAT was the biggest issue, I'm calling that a win!

I haven't heard anything further, although DS26 DID send a "Happy Mother's Day" text last night. I'm firmly in the camp of "no news is good news". He returns on Sat.

We had a coyote in our backyard one time...right by the house. I couldn't figure out what it was even though I had been *hearing* a coyote at night off & on over the years. I was trying to figure out if the coyote was some kind of grey fox or maybe just some kind of dog. Then the editor of the local newspaper wrote a column about coyotes and how he frequently sees one in his yard. I looked up his address and he lives 1/2 mile away from us. So it was definitely a coyote. Haven't seen or heard one for several years now.

We also have foxes in our yard frequently. Most of the time we don't see them and only know they're there because we see them on the security cameras when we're looking for something else. About 2 weeks ago we had a gorgeous red fox sitting on the bank in our backyard. S/He just sat there, looking around, like he was people watching. S/He sat there for about 15 minutes and then trotted off into the field next to our house. Then yesterday my daughter looked out the kitchen window and said, "I think there are 2 groundhogs playing around out at the edge of the yard." I went and looked and nope, not 2 groundhogs...4 baby foxes!!! They were so darn cute just frolicking around and playing in the yard for 10-15 minutes. I know mama was close by -- hiding in the woods/field because at one point, all 4 babies sat up and turned their heads in the same direction and ran into the woods. Mama must have been scolding them for something. They were all back out n the yard in about 30 seconds. We've seen baby foxes in the area before but never actually in our yard. I hope we get to see them again.

We live in a neighborhood of single homes on about 1/3 -1/2 acre. One night years ago, we had a skunk walk up to our sliding door and look in for a looonnngggg minute. So glad we had the door closed and not just the screen door there.
