Speaking of Coffee… My younger 🤷‍♂️ coworker informed me what good coffee is and why it is 5-6 and more -regular coffee and is worth it. What’s wrong with Folgers I don’t know it tastes like coffee same as Starbucks, Mcds, Burger King, Dunkin….. He generously bought me a cup of good coffee the licorice aftertaste was nice after the first sip but after was gone. The Coffee didn’t taste like coffee but more of an earthy taste sort of like the dirt it came from…. While I enjoyed my cup of coffee somewhat… a buck and the Mcds app woukd have awarded me a large cup of coffee that tastes like…. well coffee and do what it is intended to do…. Keep me awake.… and more important spending 5-6 bucks for a much smaller “better quality coffee“

I'll admit I saw the change of the thread topic and thought something must have really gone awry. But I take a look and everyone is talking about booze:rotfl2: Seems like everyone is getting along swimmingly!

"...Because without beer, things do not seem to go as well..."
We can all thank mentioning a POG juice IPA for bringing us together 🤣

I think we were separated at birth. I would enrage OP with my spending on Disney products this past 12 months alone (i shudder to say it’s more than the salary in the original post and this year will be a biggie too before settling into into a sensible pattern).

We were dead broke growing up (mom had to to steal to feed us sometimes, and when I met my wife I had $15 to my name). Fast forward 25 years - worked extremely hard, progressed in my career and DW calls me her best investment!!

We drive one average car between us. I didn’t go to Disney until I was in my 30s because I couldn’t afford it. So I’m playing 25 years of catch-up and getting all the big one-offs out of the way into a year or two. A lot of that is so I can spoil family (seeing as I don’t have my own kids).

At the same time, I will hunt for BOGOs at Publix like there’s no tomorrow. Strange how the human mind works. It’s all about how you value your hard earned $$
lol we may have been!

I consider myself the bargain shopper, I hunt for clearance deals (I go straight to that in retail stores), use coupons, etc. I hate buying things full price and so majority of the time I don't, maybe not so much on groceries but def. on other things especially retail, my husband hates Costco shopping with me haha. I haven't spent more than $30 on a pair of jeans, I'm more like $20 and below please. Many of my recent clothes purchases in the last year or two have been purchased heavily on sale like my jean skirt I go at Macy's for under $5 on clearance or the shirt I got at Khol's for a few bucks.

For many of our vacations we did a lot of budgeting, staying at this place instead of that, not necessarily sacrificing but just finding ways and adjusting what we did. We know we're increasing the types of vacations we're doing in comparison to years past but we're still always looking at the trips in terms of "is this realistic for us" knowing our habits. There have been years where we said "no Christmas or birthday gifts or anniversary" as we're doing a trip. We don't care about gifts anyhow but see the experiences together as enough. We'll be in Mexico next week on our anniversary and all we'll be swapping is cards for each other.

That credit card talk that I mentioned that got the OP so riled up it the particular high rewards/benefits one has enough travel insurance that we don't need to purchase anything else. The only insurance we did purchase was yesterday for $45 or so for a $1million medical coverage (since we'll be out of the country) for next week and for our cruise which is in Europe it's like $65 (we'll book that later on). Those aren't breaking the bank there. Both would be $0 deductibles.

Our trip to Hawaii in 2016 was after my husband had been working in TX for 5 1/2 months, home for 2 1/2 weeks straight, then MD for 8 1/2 months. He earned that trip and the 65-75 hours in a week he sometimes worked. Yeah he was home every 2 weeks but it was such a busy stressful time for him, our dream of going to Hawaii became a reality and it was done by using Delta points, by booking a for rent by owner condo place (we even went to the grocery store and made like 2 or so meals in the kitchen) but we had such an amazing trip. And like I mentioned we were under that threshold for the OP but they wouldn't have wanted to hear about how we did it. Oh well, clearly other posters are gleaning information off of each other anyways :)

Okay John so what are your thoughts on the Hershey Chocolate Porter? I believe it's only available in a few states (Maryland being one of them) so I've tried this and it's kinda funky tasting

I love dark beer but so far haven't found a "chocolate" offering that I felt checked the yummy box.

Hahaha I think so. I’m still cracking up.

DW; “Honey, there’s this awesome cruise but it costs $20k. Do you want to do it? Me: “You know I do!!”
DW: “Get me some more ranch”
Me: “Hell no, that’s 50 extra cents. You should have bought a jar from home” 🤣

We do the same thing btw. Don’t want or need Christmas presents or birthday presents necessarily, would rather put that money to something else.

And yea, this forum has been a god send!!!!

I stayed at a hotel with scented toilet paper in January and I was like WHAT is this this is literally not even HEALTHY.

Fully in the (open plan) office right now oops.
No to the scented toilet paper, but I will have to say after traveling to Japan I would really love to have a Japanese toilet in my next bath remodel. Two words: heated seat.

Did you have a bidet while there? My husband did a lot when he went to Japan in 2014. We'll be going there next year. However, our hotel in Mexico next week the room we have has a bidet as well. I've never used one so it'll be quite the first experience. Now all I think of is when the pandemic first started and people were buying up bidet attachments due to the toilet paper shortage :rotfl2:

When we remodeled our bathrooms and we went to the plumbing fixture store the most terrifying thing I saw was a toilet with an electrical cord.

Anyone here from Nashville here?? I work with colleagues from that area and they have an additional 15% liquor tax on top of the 9.25% sales tax!!! 😱 I can't imagine going out for a drink and get charged 24.25% tax on my cocktail!!

Greetings from Long Beach, the City with the highest sales tax in the nation, checking in at 10.25%.
It is also 10.25% for us....😭

We got you beat here. It can be over 11% depending on the area. Actually there's a city in my state that is 11.5% due to special tax assessments. But I totally understand what you're meaning vacationing elsewhere must be a dream for you too!

So my direct area is 9.475% say at Walmart, cross the street to go to Price Chopper grocery store and because that is in a special tax district it's 10.475%.
I seriously thought we were the highest too. 11.5%?! That's crazy!!

DH did business in Japan often. He wants one so bad. Our Florida neighbors had one so he drug me over there to look at it. SO UGLY. Buttons all over the place, electricity. I swear if I sat on it I'd end up a crispy rump roast.

OMG seriously I about spilled water all over the place..don't read this and try to take a drink of water sheesh.

Our cruise isn't near that cost but it's a pretty penny to us. But holy moly are you spot on how I would feel. My husband rolls his eyes and is like "just get the ranch I don't care"..it took me years to get to that point though and I don't typically ask anymore. But no really I would have probably been like "geez for this price we should have just packed some" :rotfl:but I won't have to worry about that on this cruise, kinda a weird but welcomed feeling though

I'm a practical kind of gal. I've told this story several times but for my birthday in 2020 (spring so the pandemic was still new) my husband got me a micro-cut shredder and I was the happiest of happiest people.

I hope it was a least an 8 pager with credit card function 🤣🤣🤣

Oh believe me, the amateur interior designer in me finds them extremely ugly. But at 2 AM….so nice. It would have to be in it’s own closet so I didn’t have to look at it all the time.:sad2:

Oh no that's not an age thing, that's a smart thing ::yes::

When at Disney or Universal because we've typically gone in September when it's hot hot hot we do not drink much alcohol because heat and being outside so much with the sun it's just not a good combination.

That said next week you'll catch me sipping on some nice beverages while laying out at the beach but still won't be drinking too much, last thing I want is to feel miserable.

Of course I am in my 30s..that age at which you sleep wrong just 1 night and it's all over. I had a crick in my neck for more than 2 weeks a couple months back..just 1 night is all it took.

Everything goes right in this thread? Just checking...did I mention my 33 year old husband ordered an inversion chair table? He just about maxes out the height on it. I'm actually excited about it as well, It has heaters and massage too. Supposed to be here tomorrow. Something he just found out is his work will pay $300 total (so you can split it up) towards "wellness" things per year and it's apparently a broad amount that it will cover, you pay then submit an expense report. So his work just paid for 30-something year olds to have an inversion table although in truth this is an appropriate usage of the wellness dollars. Anyone have an inversion chair table and want to share experiences??
:rotfl::laughing: I'm not in my 30s anymore, but yeah 30s was when that thing "if one thing goes wrong" started with me! 😅 Don't even talk about hangovers....loooordddd....lol!🥴😵‍💫 Cheap alcohol gives me a headache, too much alcohol gives me a headache...too much sun with alcohol gives me a headache....why is life so hard?!? 🤣😂🤣

I always wonder if those inversion table works....🤔
