That's very interesting!! I wonder why though? I will remember that when I go to the UK I can't order scampi! I had monkfish before....not a fan!
Pub/cheap scampi is just fish mush. I would avoid unless you go somewhere nicer, when you may get langoustine or prawn.

Can we chat about Universal Orlando? So DH and I were thinking that, one of these Orlando trips we will actually stay at a UO resort for a 3-4 days, go to the parks and also check out Volcano Bay. We have never been to Volcano Bay but looks fun? Has anyone stayed at one of the UO deluxe resorts? I want to try it out especially one of the perks is the unlimited express pass. Is it worth it? Or is it better just tag on the express pass for the day?

:thanks:
Definitely worth staying at a deluxe resort for the ‘free’ express passes. Check out the AP rates. I will add the link. Often the discount on hotel rates, food, merchandise etc., covers the cost of one AP.
If your dates don’t show as AP rates yet keep checking back. I usually book the room I want, then if an AP rate appears cancel/modify and rebook. All the deluxe hotels are of a decent standard and you can walk to both parks in minutes. You don’t need an AP until you check in.

I don't have time ... I need to pack for my trip to Puerto Rico followed by a repositioning cruise to NYC. When I get back though ...
Well when you get back..............think about the palm trees. Beautiful turquiouse blue water. The garlic shrimp. The chill aloha vibes 8-)
We went last summer and I loved Kauai the best of the islands we visited (Oahu, Maui and Kauai). We were there during the historic waves and it was so cool watching all the surfers out catching them.
I've been to Kauai once and really loved it too. Definitely has the most laid back vibe. None of the hustle and bustle of places like Waikiki.

I'm actually going to Volcano Bay next weekend - if it doesn't rain and thunder like it says it's going to. If it does, I'll move my ticket to later this month. I've heard it has really thrilling slides and a better lazy river than Typhoon Lagoon at Disney which is why I want to visit and see for myself. Also they have the TapuTapu system where every slide has a virtual queue system. No waiting in long lines holding giant tubes!

If you are planning to go during a peak time, definitely swing for Express. It works for every ride except Hagrid's and Pteranodon Flyers (which you cannot ride anyway unless you have a child with you).

Thank you!!! I never thought about getting AP but I'll definitely check it out if the discounts are worth it! The best deal I found so far is from Costco Travel (not surprised).

@Smugpugmug Hope the weather holds out! We heard great things about it too and watched some youtube videos, it looks fun! And yes I do like their vitural queue system! Don't know why Disney doesn't do it for their waterparks...
I think the ONLY way we can ride Pteranodon Flyers is if we do Orlando Informer meetup? If I remember correctly, they allow adults without kids to ride it during the event. At least that was the case for that one youtube video we saw, the blogger said that night they were able to ride it.

OMG, the deluxes are so worth it for the "free" express pass! Even with two people, it might be a little more than getting a moderate and buying the XP, but the rooms are better, so it's still very much worth it! And the walks are usually shorter to get to the parks.

Regarding Universal, yes, definitely stay at one of the deluxe resorts to get the EP. I would stay at whichever is the cheapest. The first time we stayed at PBH, we had a wonderful stay. So much so, we returned there a few years later for 5 days. Unfortunately, our second stay was very disappointing. Cleanliness was a big issue in our room, in the resort hallways, and at the main resort pool. The management sent me such a generic email after I sent them a comprehensive review of our subpar experience. It was obvious that the management was severely lacking. We vowed to never stay there again until they cleaned up their act. This was many years ago so hopefully things have changed for the better.

I do too because I really want to go :( It doesn't cost anything to move my ticket to the last week of April so that's good at least. I went to Typhoon Lagoon last month and IMO the lines aren't super long enough to have a TapuTapu. Longest I waited for a slide was 35 minutes for Miss Adventure Falls (which is one of the only slides young kids can go on which is probably why it had a longer wait). Their lazy river is quite narrow in some areas which makes it congested and feel like a people soup.

I heard from one vlogger that it's a lottery system during the meetups in terms of whether adults can ride Pteranodon Flyers or not. So not everyone can.

Must be an IL thing 😂 my grandma and her side of the family (from IL) always called it supper but no one else in my family (from CA) calls it that.
Or a midwest thing?

I grew up in Ohio and we used both. Dinner was a more “formal” meal, Sunday dinner, having friends over for dinner, that sort of thing. Supper was more informal, just the immediate family. Both sides of my extended family were raised in WV and moved to Ohio as young adults. My parents grew up in neighboring counties, but didn’t meet until after both had moved to Ohio.

Enjoy the sunshine and margaritas for us!:sunny:⛱️ It's currently 47 here and raining. SWA always have super early flights! I think the earliest flight I'll book now a days is 7am. Anything before 7 is just too early, I just can't do it! (unless I have no choice)
Soooo I don't like tequila :o:o My husband will be enjoying those margaritas though that's for sure! Give me drinks with rum though and I'm down

As for the weather I so feel you! That was us last week and the week before and the week before that...

It's finally starting to be that spring weather where it's anywhere between 50s,60s and 70s. Watch we'll come back and have missed the tiny window of spring here before summer starts. Some years we get barely any spring and then it's hot and humid in May 🙄 I'm hoping that doesn't happen this year.
Now I have this stuck in my head....I'm barbie girl, in a barbie world...life in plastic it's fantastic....🎶🎤
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:I um may have that on my Spotify 80s/90s playlist

Yeah, it's a lottery. I've been to the OI meetups twice and did not get to ride Pteranodon Flyers.

Universal AP holder, love Volcano Bay, if on property take advantage of the early entry to ride the aquacoaster. Even with the Tapu system it gets really backed up. You might get a time 3 hours later, and unless it has changed you can't reserve another ride slot during that time. I have ridden it 4 or 5 times during EE with little to no wait.

Or a midwest thing?
I think it depends on where in the midwest..seems like IL and OH are bigger.

But in my area of KS near the border of MO I know of no one who calls it supper (other than the one friend). It's possible too if I go to the more rural parts of my state they call it supper but in the suburbs doesn't seem to be a thing.

We had stayed at Royal Pacific normally until the last trip when it was just DS#2 and me and we stayed at Portofino. Royal Pacific is a bit closer if you are going to walk to the parks but the rooms are a little smaller. For a quieter trip, we liked Portofino, but we had to take 2 elevators to get to our room. We liked the extra quiet pool though. If you’re going during a busier time, I do think the unlimited express pass is worth it if you can find a decent rate on the hotel. We didn’t end up going to Volcano Bay on that trip as we just hung out at the pool.

I only remember the 900 Numbers that you could call and speak to someone named "bunny" ...
True story . . . One day at work, the operations manager needed to call a credit card customer service line to fix a transaction. He sat down, hit speaker phone, and dialed the 1-800 number. At least, he thought he did, until the breathy female voice came on the line. I have never seen anyone go bright red and totally pale all at the same time! Fortunately there were only three of us in the room, him, me, and my coworker, and we never shared the story with anyone else at work. It taught me to never put a phone on speaker until I know I have dialed correctly.
