We need to book two rooms at Pop Century because there are six of us - 2 adults and 4 kids under 17. We were initially told that they could guarantee us two rooms side by side but not necessarily adjoining. I spoke to someone today at Disney who said they have a policy that does in fact guarantee two adjoining rooms if you are traveling with two adults and at least 3 kids under the age of 17. Does anyone know the exact policy on this? We don't want to get there and find out our hotels rooms are not adjoining.

It does not guarantee you either adjoining or connecting rooms. This is simply a request. The only time they "guarantee" this sort of thing is where there is a single adult with enough children to require two rooms. Also, make sure you are requesting what you really want...

Adjoining- Two rooms beside each other
Connecting- Two rooms that are connected by an interior door

This comes up quite often on these boards and this is pretty much what has been discovered. Hopefully, others will also answer

We also have reservations at POP for two rooms. One room for me and dh and one room for dd's 14 and 9. For what it is worth, I asked if we could request connectings rooms. The CM said no problem, it would be guaranteed. Both of my confirmations say "Connecting Rooms Guaranteed". I guess we will have to wait and see when we get there in March.

If you go through "Special Guest Services" they will guarantee the rooms due to the number of children in your party. When making the reservation ask to speak to SGS don't just let them say they noted it on your reservation as that doesn't always work. Also, make absolutely certain that the person taking your reservation is saying CONNECTING rooms as adjoining rooms not only won't have the door between them but can sometimes be around the corner from each other with doors on each side.

As a mother of 4 (All grown now. My oldest is in her 30's and my youngest is 22) I often wished Disney had more options for larger families.
When the children were younger and we would go to Disney they did not have DVC or the family suites. In fact Disney did not have a Moderate until CBR opened in the late 1980's so if we wanted to stay onsite we either rented 2 rooms at a deluxe or stayed in the cabins.

I wrote to Disney many times over the years asking for more options for families so when I heard they were building the New Family Suites at All Star Music it just made me so happy!

In the late 80's I booked 2 connecting rooms at CBR for my family.
When we checked in there were no connecting rooms left but we were able to get rooms next to each other on the second floor.
Our two oldest were teens so I put them in one room and the 2 little ones who were 5 and 7 stayed with us. It worked for us because our older children were able to stay in a room without us but if they were younger DH and I would have had to split up.

Disney may say they guarantee connecting rooms but in reality Disney does not guarantee connecting rooms.

If there are 2 adults Disney can split the adults and children into two rooms that are not connecting. They try hard not to do this but it can and does happen sometimes. If however it is one adult with 5 children Disney should try harder to find connecting rooms since some of the children cannot be left in a room without an adult. But if you look at the threads posted below you will see that sometimes even Disney mixes up.

Just wanted to re-iterate what others have said:

We requesting connecting rooms at CBR in January--not really a busy time & we were early for check-in. They did not have us in connecting rooms. They said they could accommodate us, but it would be smoking rooms--which was our #1 request non-smoking.

We were side-by-side, so we just went outside to go next door, so it wasn't a huge deal for us. But if you definitely want to be together--I would go with a suite. You could also look into renting DVC points for a villa.

One of the threads that Linda posted a link to was my experience last March. I had many conversations with the higher-ups at Guest Services and was told that even if it says "guaranteed" it is not truly "guaranteed." It just has higher priority over the "requests." Because on a given day, there might only be 25 connecting room sets opening up, but 27 "guaranteed connecting rooms for families" ressies checking in. 2 of those families are not going to get their "guarantee."

I know, I was shocked that we had to fight so hard to get put in rooms that had just been fumigated for lice (they were taken out of the inventory, but re-opened because we insisted we needed rooms.) I sort of assumed that if they didn't have the rooms for us, they'd find rooms elsewhere on Disney property. For that stay, we were sometimes 2 adults and sometimes only 1. Now we will book offsite if we need to do that again. If there are 2 of us adults, we book connecting and hope for the best. Otherwise, we'll split the kids.

My point is to make backup plans if you are depending on connecting rooms.

That is one of the main reasons if my family were young I would choose a Suite over 2 connecting rooms or I would be prepared that I may need to split the family up and sleep in a different room than DH.

Wondering how you made out with your connecting rooms. We have not received our confirmation yet and we booked through AAA so I do not know if we'll be seeing "gauranteed connecting rooms." Everyone I have spoken to has told me that we absolutely will but until we are there, I will not be convinced. Hope your trip went well.

I don't know the exact policy, but I booked two rooms at AKL and was told that because we had 5 and the rooms only hold 4 that our request for connecting rooms was guaranteed. The reservation also reflected this when I received it via email.

You will see from the first link from Minnie that I stated "I would not take a chance on getting 2 rooms..." I ended up booking 2 rooms the following year at BWI. Reservation stated guaranteed connecting. When I arrived they wanted to give us 1 room on the Inn side and the other a studio on the Villa side It took over 2 hours for the manager to find two adjoining studios which was still a hassle because DH & I had to split up. Lesson learned.

Connecting rooms are not guaranteed, despite what the ressie says...which makes absolutely NO sense to me.
In any case, make sure it's noted on your ressie...more than likely, they will be able to accomodate. We've requested and gotten them on each trip.

Hi there. We were very concerned. We called two days before our check in based on some advice we had gotten from other DIS posts and they reassured us that we would be getting the connecting rooms. We were crossing our fingers at check in but everything went very smoothly! We even had a mid week check in and everything. I'm not sure what the exact policy is with regard to the requests for these rooms. The person who checked us in said that some families qualify for a guarantee and others do not.

We always have to request connecting rooms and most of the time we are able to get them without a problem. Seems to me that it should not be such a difficult task to guarantee connecting rooms....but it is. Have a great trip!!

Okay...
Any hotel with connecting rooms has a finite number of those rooms (or pairs of rooms). Example: A hotel has 100 rooms. Half of those, or fifty, are connecting rooms - but there are actually only 25 such pairs, so only 25, not 50, parties can have connecting rooms any given night. Thirty parties requested connecting rooms. Five parties will not get them, period.
Add in other factors - such as, five of the fifty rooms are the handicapped-accessible rooms and on our imaginary night, all five are needed and thus occupied by parties of one or two.
Now you're down to 45 connecting rooms available, but only twenty pairs of connecting rooms - the other five connect to already-occupied rooms. Now only twenty of the thirty parties can be placed in connecting rooms.
But wait! Another five of the fifty connecting rooms have a king-size bed, a category that costs extra but which is then 100% guaranteed. So, all five of those rooms are also taken - and they're not the accessible rooms. That takes another five pairs of connecting rooms out of the loop. Now we're down to only fifteen parties ultimately being able to actually have connecting pairs of rooms.

We were 2 adults, and 5 children (14,13,12, 9 and 9) and we just got back from the Poly where we had "Connecting Rooms"... Once you have the reservation numbers for both rooms you need to tell the CM that you want Adjoining (next to) or Connecting (door to door in-room connection)rooms... You need to give the CM both reservation numbers. THEN the CM will give you a "Travel With" number. This number will be the same number and attached to both of your reservations. When the resort makes the room selections they will see that the two reservations are connected.

I personally called two days before I arrived to confirm that the Poly had this correct information, the travel with number, and that our rooms were to be connecting. It all worked out perfectly.

Good Luck. Just make sure you write down the "travel with number" for your own records.

I agree with all of the above. Luckily, only twice in MANY WDW visits have we not received the connecting rooms we requested. Once, many years ago at *** when DH and I had 4 children under the age of 10, and again two years ago at AKL. That time we were a party of 7 and needed 3 rooms(two connecting). The oldest were 17 so it was not a big deal but we got two adjoining rooms and one room across the hallway.
I would say hope for the connecting rooms but don't let it ruin everything if you don't get it. It's always possible they can move you to connecting the next day if it's not available at check in.
