Adenoid removal improves hearing?

I had my adenoids and tonsils removed as well as tubes put in my ears when I was 8 years old. I was at a 75% hearing loss in my right ear and a 60% in my left. Hours after surgery I could hear better and that night I heard the furnace running for the first time. My mom always tells me I was freaking out because I had never been able to clearly hear it before.

I am now 26 and have had no major ear issues. I think I have had one actual ear infection in all that time.

My son had tubes put in and his adenoids out last summer for glue ear and hearing loss. His adenoids were very large and compressed his eustachian tubes. Immediately after the surgery he could hear better--his hearing is now normal. His speech improved too (he was 4).

In April he had his tonsils out--they were humongous and caused sleep apnea. He also had his tubes put back in as one had fallen out.

Getting tubes for him and having his adenoids and tonsils out changed his life. I am so glad we did that for him. I bet it makes things easier for your little one, too. Good luck!

I am 50 and had adenoids/tonsils removed in 2d grade & tubes put in at same time so they have been doing this for a long time. I never had colds or ear infections but was losing my hearing to the point where the doctors said i was reading lips to hear. I recall about a weeks recovery with lots of ice cream, etc. but i basically felt much better after about 3 days & the recovery time may be shorter now. My hearing improved greatly but now seems to be declining faster than others my age, not sure if this is related or not.
