As a loyal SWA flyer I watch airfare like a hawk and jump on any reduction in price. Today my flight dropped $4.00 so I rebooked but in the end the new flight COST ME MORE!!!! It seems there's a new tax as of 8/8 that adds about $7 to airfare. SOOO....if rebooking a flight reserved before 8/8, be sure the drop in fare exceeds $8.00. Otherwise, not such a good idea. HAPPY TRAVELS! :3dglasses

Yeah, I saw that this morning on SW and couldn't figure it out. My fare had gone down $5 but my total up by $30. But when I checked the Airtrans flights I was looking at, they were they same total. What's up with that?

That's odd. Yesterday I re-booked a flight for November that I originally purchased months ago (when the schedule first opened) and chose a later flight and the price was $4 more per ticket. When I re-booked I was only charged the $4 not any additional. :confused3

Also, yesterday I purchased a flight (for November also) and this morning I saw that the price went from $172 down to $139 so I re-booked that one also. I was refunded $33 - so no additional taxes between yesterday and today either.

That's what it is, I figured it had to be some additional tax. Priced flights on Sunday night and saw that AT had gone down each leg. Wrote down my totals and then when I was checking again I saw that while the legs were still the same price, the overall was up. Bummer!

It's not an additional tax, it's a reinstatement of a tax that briefly wasn't collected.
Certain Federal taxes were not collected for tickets purchased from 7/23 to 8/8.
If you bought your tickets in this interval you did not have to pay the tax. If you are rebooking a ticket using a ticket purchased in this interval then the tax will be collected with the new ticket.
So you caught a break on the original ticket, there are no "new" taxes being added to your new ticket.

you paid the now re-instituted tax when you made your original purchase so no additional tax was assessed. Anyone who bought tickets between 7/23 (when the airlines could not collect the tax due to the doofuses in Congress) and 8/8 (when the doofuses fixed the issue) didn't pay the tax so any changes they make requires them to now pay the tax. Clear as mud huh?

No, I get it. :) I figured that is what happened. Just wanted to make it clear that I did not get any "additional fees" imposed when I rebooked so I thought that may have been the issue when DanenRox rebooked.
