We are waiting for our BCV to pass ROFR and already thinking about adding on points. :rolleyes1I think I understand how it works but I feel like I am missing something...

Why would you add on a small number of points at a different resort? You can only book the points that you have there at 11 months, so 25 -50 points would only get you a couple of days. Is it for split stays or different trips?

Thanks!

it's usually for split stays or for using banking and borrowing to stay every other year or every third year.

When we added on the first time it was for 50 points at AKV. The reason we did it was to get our foot in the door there and be able to book it at 11 months. We had no real plans to do split stays, but we did plan to bank the points and use them every other year. Three months after we added them on we attended a DVC seminar and added 75 points more. So much for restraint.

With 50 points...you can stay for 5 days in a studio at OKW or BWV in Adventure season. 5 days can be a pretty good vacation!

With 25 points, you can have those 5 days every other year.

By banking and borrowing with smaller point contracts, one could also plan trips to the various DVC resorts every other year or so to take advantage of the 11 month booking during high demand seasons. For example, you could book BCV every other year for the Epcot F & W Festival and then book VWL every other year at Christmas, etc.

I own at 4 different resorts because I book at 11 months out for high demand times and like to stay a variety of places. If you usually book at 7 months or less then it is not as important where your contracts are--but keep in mind you might not get the resort you want.

Having small contracts also gives me the option of selling one or two as my vacation pattern changes.

All of the above, and small addonitis contracts increase the liquidity of the asset. Small contract sell well if you need to make a change in your asset position and allow for a small pairing down move rather than a full hull breach if you need to make that change. We have multiple small contracts at the same resorts, and have purchased multiple ones during the same transaction just for that reason.

Thank you everyone. I didn't consider the every other year option (which I love! ) I certainly see the benefits in getting smaller contracts to be able to sell them or acquire them. I think AKV would make a great every other year... Maybe I should really stay there first...:rotfl:

I added 50 points at VGC. My plan is to get a studio there for 5 nights once every 3 years, booking it 11 months out. After staying at the GCH I think I will AWAYS want to stay @ VGC when we are in CA!!! It is enough points to do that ANY time of the year based on the 2010 point chart (usually arriving on a Saturday unless we did Premiere [unlikely due to the crowds!], then it would have to be Sun-Thur.) and during some seasons I might even be able to pull a 1-bed if we wanted...

FYI, we plan for 6-night annual trips (generally in a studio) to WDW using our 160 point BLT contract, book @ 11 months and then maybe change to someplace else for variety @ 7 mo. if we can until we've tried all the DVC properties.
