Weren't these restaurants already open during free dining? They are in the Disneyworld Disney Dining Plan Locations list anyway????? So why is this anything new???

Additional Restaurants available during Free Dining Promotion.

Chef Mickey's 8/16-29/09 and 9/20-10/3/09 Character Lunch Buffet 12:30 -2:30 PM Chef Mickey's is not usually open for lunch.


Diamond Horsehoe- 8/16-10/3/09 Dinner 5:00- 9 PM
Diamond Horseshoe is generally open only during crowded periods.


'Ohana 8/16-29 and 9/20-10/3/09 Breakfast- till 12 noon, Dinner will open at 4:30 PM.
Ohana's hours have been extended. Breakfast lasting longer & dinner starting earlier


Whispering Canyon Cafe- 8/16-29, 9/20-10/3/09 Dinner will open at 4:00 PM
WCC is opening earlier for dinner


Mickey's Backyard BBQ- Additional nights 8/18, 8/25, 9/1, 9/11, 9/15, 9/22, 9/29 The backyard BBQ is usually only available on Saturdays & Thursdays. It looks like they are adding Tuesdays.


So to answer the PP's questions, it is different.

I just tried to book Chef Mickey's for the 24th and they said it was already booked solid for lunch. How did everyone find out so fast???

Me too.... I checked O'hana's, Mickey's BBQ, WCC for every day during our stay and they are all booked!!!

I tried online and then calling. The system isn't upgraded yet...tonight from what I was told.

So in the morning we should be able to book these plus hopefully the Wishes Dessert Party.

Well, I know why Chef Mickey's is booked for lunch. That has been open since we could book our ADRs back in June. Chef Mickey's has been traditionally open for lunch during Free Dining and when people couldn't get breakfast/dinner, the CM's told the people, lunch was open. Plus DIS people shared that info after they called with the dates it was open for lunch. I imagine it was the same for the other restaurants. I don't think these were just opened.

this is old, old, old "news" and there's been a lot of reservations for all of those places ever since Free Diners hit their 90 day booking mark (in May)...these have all been available for free dining booking all summer. There have been numerous threads for the last 3 months asking about these places & times...threads asking if Chef Mickey's lunch will have characters (yes), and if there is a show at Diamond Horseshoe (no, and they just serve Liberty Tree Tavern food there) and so on. They did the same thing last year to get more seats at table service available for Free Dining.

Don't know why this is being reported as "news" now...kind of odd timing. Maybe someone's just trying to remind people there might be other possibilities.

Hope it's not just a rumor that they're extending the Wishes Dessert party...that would be awesome to give more people the opportunity.

All the other stuff on the WDWInfo sight is not really new restaurant availability...as Dato63 explained on their post above, it's mostly just extended meal times or places that are opened up every year for free dining. But they've been booking those all along since May. We were offered some of those times when we made ADRs for our early September trip (our 90 day mark was on 5/31.) Also offered Diamond Horseshoe but turned it down because I knew from last year that it was just that "thanksgiving-style" dinner from Liberty Tree Tavern.
