I am a current DVC member and my Dad & Stepmom (who we travel with most of the time) are looking into buying some points that we can all use so I don't have to use all mine. So my question is would it be better for him to purchase and have me be the "additional purchaser" or buy them under my name and he be the "additional purchaser"? I looking for legal benefits and convenience of booking. I'm wondering if there is a way to have the points he purchases go right into my account or if we will have to have separate accounts and how we will be able to combine points if needed. TIA!!

Someone more experienced will reply soon, but it's my understanding that if the contracts are not titled exactly the same way they'll be separate accounts. You can't combine the two different accounts together for you to book as one block of points, unless Dad transferred all his points to you, but then you would need to call in to book as I don't think transfered points show up online.

This whole scenario could be a big can of worms honestly. You could add them to your contract and then add on another contract so they're all one big pool, but then legally all of you would jointly own both contracts. He could just give you the money to add on to your contract, but then you would be the sole legal owner of it and could do whatever with it. Could get messy.

You might consider setting up some type of Family Trust or :Living Trust to hold all your DVC points, and then you can transfer ownership for the contracts to the Trust. However, my understanding is that unless they set up both contracts into the same account, right from the beginning, then they are unlikely to do it later.

There is no "additional purchaser".

If You want one membership, the deeds must be exactly the same. If you want to jointly own all your points, you can add them on now to yours (1 deed change) and then purchase more points and have it deeded exactly the same. If you don't do the deed change first, add on in only your name (exactly as currently titled) and then you will need to change both deeds.

You cannot have separate owners under 1 membership.

If you want to maintain separate legal ownership, but use your points together, you can transfer between memberships. This can only be done once per year.

As others have stated, all have to be titled identically to appear as one master contract.

However, what I think you're trying to accomplish could be done by putting you onto his contract as an associate member. That would allow you to book using his points in his account, and, I think, transfer his points to your account to book using your account.

If they travel with you, I'd just buy more points in your name. If you buy together it will be a totally new master contract unless you change your current contract. As a new contract you wouldn't have benefits on that one unless it was retail so the only ways for them to get their own benefits and avoid restrictions are to buy retail OR change your current contract (or a portion if you have more than one).

what we did was retitled the existing contract to include my parents (did it ourselves for less than $50, and it took 7 weeks), and then added on so we don’t have to transfer points between two contracts.
