Additional Fast Pass question

We're planning our first trip in years. Last time we visited, Fast Passes were still paper tickets that you picked up from Kiosks in the park. I have the impression that the new system is better, but I want to be sure I understand completely.

I understand the rules about the first three Fast Passes ... but I have a question about additional fast passes: Once you've entered the third Fast Passes line (or the time has passed you by), you can sign up for one additional Fast Pass. Understood ... partly.

Does that mean ONE additional Fast Pass for the rest of the day (total of four per day, and then you've had "your share") ... or does it mean one additional Fast Pass AT A TIME for the rest of the day, meaning you could potentially have 4, 5, 6, however many ... but number 4, 5, 6, etc. can only be held one at a time?

And another question: What percentage of Disney guests would you estimate take the time to learn to use /bother to use Fast Passes?

Thanks for your help!

This. The second scenario is true. Refreshing is your friend.

I can answer the first question. It is unlimited until they run out. You can’t get another until you scan in for each one, but keep refreshing and you can have many additional FP.

Great! I thought this was "the rule", but I wanted to be certain. Thanks.

Until they run out. Yeah, I hadn't focused on that detail, but I understand it's a fact. At some point in the day is it realistic to say, "No more point in refreshing. It's done."? Thanks.

In the last hour, maybe. Before then, refresh away.

Also, from the FP FAQ (note especially the middle portion):
- One additional FP can be selected per guest, subject to availability, using the MDX app or website or at any in-park kiosk once all prebooked FPs are used or expire. When that FP is used or expires, another FP can be scheduled and used (and so on). Guests can use the MDX website or app to schedule FPs in any park for that same day. In-park kiosks can also be used to schedule FPs, but only for attractions in that same park.

And another question: What percentage of Disney guests would you estimate take the time to learn to use /bother to use Fast Passes?

Haven't a clue for certain but I'd say virtually all of them use at least the initial 3, be it the ones made in advance or made after they get there and see signs/kiosks, etc. It is on all park maps

As others have said, it is one additional FP at a time, with no limit on how many you can get as long there is time, and additional FP availability.

As for what percentage of guests us FP+. That is a good question. I would say perhaps between 50% and 75% of guests use FP to some degree. I would think that it is a much smaller percentage that truly use it to it's fullest potential.

We got 5 additional fast passes yesterday in mk. I used refresh and was able to get better ones. We could have gotten more, but we had a dinner reservation. We were also able to get soarin for after dinner.

I've had NO luck with refreshing but I am trying to get FoP. Probably not going to happen for me.

So you had your initial three plus an additional five? Wow.

Thanks to all who've helped me understand this process better!

Very typical for MK. On the low side actually. About avg for the other parks, where there are fewer rides. Granted, it all depends on how early you start your FP and all that.

People change, modify, cancel all the time. We refresh even late into the evening. Don't believe there is ever a "done"... Someone may choose to leave the park and cancel their late night fast passes.

Mother Murphy! Sounds like a lot of time staring at the phone on vacation. I’m not sure I’m up for this....craving ye olde days when I didn’t have a cell on vacation!

You can make that happen. Leave the cell phone in the car or hotel room and give it a whirl.

It seems like a lot of people spend their time on their phones in lines anyway from my observations. Other than a small handful of times in the past 4 trips, most of the time, it only takes me 2 or 3 minutes to pull up the app and pick my next FP. The few times it took me longer was if I was looking for something specific or was trying to move up a FP. There are many people that if they want to book their next FP, they use the kiosks instead of a smartphone, so if you want to leave your cell, go right ahead.

I will say though that in January 2017, I was able to ride EE about 6 times in 20-30 minutes with very little wait times in between FP and I only spent about a minute just after tapping in for the current FP to make the next.

Yes I need to set boundaries ;). Being on my cell doesn’t feel like vacation....

On our last trip, we regularly scored 6 to 10 a day, without much phone staring. Granted, the 10 day was in MK which has a much higher density of FP-eligible rides. Every time we scanned in from FP 3 onward, I just searched and found something interesting, not very long. It's harder in Epcot, but AK and DHS for at least the afternoon worked out well.

It really isn't much time at all. Usually just the time it takes between tapping into the ride and getting on that same ride, I will have my next fastpass. 2-3 minutes most of the time. If I'm trying hard to get one of the more popular rides, it may take a little longer than that. But it's usually when I'm either in line for a ride or eating. Doesn't take away from my vacation even in the slightest.

Is this feasible even during super busy times? We will be in the parks 12/22-12/29 and obviously will book our 3 FP but do you think we will have any luck getting additional ones?
