Additional Driver - Hertz?

Just rented a minivan from Hertz via priceline. We may wish to add an additional driver, so I started googling around and found these contradictory pages on the Hertz site.

This page says no fee: https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/productservice/index.jsp?targetPage=Additional_driver.jsp

This page says $13.50 a day up to $94.50: https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/rese...rentalTerms.jsp?KEYWORD=OPERATORS&EOAG=MSPT11

Does anyone have the real skinny? We are gold members and AAA but not sure if that applies since we rented through priceline.

Thanks!

From the AAA Hertz member benefits page:
"No Additional Driver Charge
No charge for additional drivers who are AAA members, hold a major credit card in their own name and meet standard rental qualifications. Additional drivers who are not members are charged a daily fee of up to $15. Why should you pay for friends that are traveling with you to help with the driving? You shouldn’t, and as a AAA Member, you won’t!"

I saw that, too, but I assumed the "standard rental qualifications" meant renting through Hertz using the AAA code. I hope I'm wrong! Would love to get the free additional driver.

I read it as the additional driver must also be a AAA member AND that they have to meet their standard rental qualifications such as minimum age, valid license, no traffic violations, and a major credit card.

Trinchick---are you reading my mind???

I have been researching this EXACT question for the past few minutes. Hotwire rates took a major dip on minivans today so I tried my luck with a priceline rental and got a 10 day minivan reservation for $300 all-in through Hertz.

I reserved using all DH's information (if there can only be 1 driver, it's him). He has a Hertz Gold membership and we would love to get the spouse additional driver (me) included at no cost. The perk is included with Hertz Gold, but I'm reading mixed things on if this perk is given if you book through priceline. I know that PL rentals don't work to accumulate status or miles, but I can't find a definitive answer on this one.

I found the most info on this FlyerTalk thread...but it's outdated. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hert...g-hertz-1-pickup-priceline-reservation-2.html

The more I read, the more I think we won't qualify for free additional driver due to using PL.

I agree. I'm not going to count on it. A number of people were also wondering if the Gold members can skip the desk and go straight to pick up their car from the Gold Board. Looks like it was mostly a no on that one, but some have been able to do so.

I will probably plan on no additional driver being included, but ask nicely with Gold Card in hand at the desk.

I just asked Hertz on Twitter. They replied as I expected. "Unfortunately, if you book through Priceline, you are unable to add your Hertz Gold number to your reservation. You would still have to pay for an additional driver. ^SQ"

I will still plan on asking nicely at the counter. From what I read on Flyer Talk, it is okay for Gold members to go right to the Gold counter with their card and priceline reservation. I guess that is a perk if there is a long line for the regular desk.

we just rented a minivan via priceline with hertz. Yes, my wife will drive sometimes. Yes, as cheap a$$ priceline folks, we are not, even as gold members, entitled to any benefits. I understand. It is a risk to not add an additional driver...it is a risk to not to add their insurance...it is a risk to talk on your phone while driving...it is a risk to fly...get my drift?

Why add an additional driver? We are not. Never had, never will...I sleep well at night..........

Have fun on Vacation! Stress Less!
