Are Avis and Budget the only two companies that do not charge the additional driver? Is it correct to say that National doesn't charge for the additional driver IF you're a member of the Emerald Club? I've read conflicting reports about Dollar

I'm new to the rental car arena, and I'm trying to find the best deal for us this December. The websites are somewhat confusing when it comes to this fee...TIA

National doesn't charge for an additional driver if you're a member of the Emerald Club AND the additional driver lives with you.

I'm using Alamo, and using a Walmart code from Mousesavers, I get the additional driver free.

Does anyone know what the additional driver fees are for the major rental companies? I can't seem to find this on their websites.

Most of them are like $9.99 per day or something like that.

What I found was, even if I got a really good deal with a certain car rental company, once I tacked on that add'l driver fee, I was paying about the same amount as I would with another car rental company where the driver was "free".

If you use a WalMart code found on Mousesavers that usually included the additional driver for free. I used it with Alamo for March and June.

bumping as for Dollar info

believe the corp code oi1054 gives you a free driver...always seems to raise the discounted rate you obtain via codes:confused3

wondering if their express program gives you a free driver?

I'm bumping this up as I'm also looking for additional driver information.

How can you tell if a code gives you a free extra driver? I have tons of codes and coupon I've plugged in - but can't tell about the extra driver. I'm new to car rentals and feeling overwhelmed!

TIA!

I don't think Express gets you the free driver, but oi1054 definitely does. We used it in August and got both a discounted rate and free additional driver.

I don't know if there is any way to tell whether a code includes an extra driver until you input all of the info for a rental and see how it comes up (Alamo, for instance, will list it on the rental details page). I can tell you that the Walmart code (430710) for Alamo does include the extra driver. If you add this code to one of the Alamo e-coupons (links are on the Alamo site), you can get a pretty good deal in most cases. Good luck!

I'll be using the Walmart code for Alamo and will be getting the free addl driver. We just joined Costco and their website gives you discount codes & coupons w/ links to Alamo (& others) that give the free addl. driver. BJ's codes used to give free addl driver but haven't lately.

DH just picked up the new travel flier at BJ's today and the new coupon codes (exp. 7/31/08) DO include the additional driver. The old ones on the website do not.
