How do I go about adding someone to the title for my DVC? I am aware of how to add an associate, but in this case I want to have someone listed on the title.

Thanks!

call member services they will send you to the proper party.

expect to pay BIG $$$.

I got told it would cost around $700 to add Jerry to mind.

You can probably get a lawyer to do it for less - but remember Disney is the only one that can change a Disney contract - so expect to pay for it - BIG time.

I don't think it's that bad, especially since DVC dropped that $200 fee.

I think all you'd have to pay are the recording fees with the county and maybe ROFR waiver (which DVC should grant with no problem). If you do a search I know it has been discussed on the boards here somewhere.

What is the process, Tom? I guess I was wondering why someone couldn't do it themselves. My friend had to remove her DH's name when he passed away, and all she had to do was call the county when she was down at Disney.

We added our daughter to our deed when she turned 21. I believe your mortgage has to be paid in full before you can add or remove anyone. I may be wrong.

Anyway, just call Timeshare Closing Services. (Someone posted their phone number earilier...sorry I don't know it :confused3 .) They'll do a new deed, add the additional person, send it to you for signatures, etc., have the deed recorded and notify DVC. (That's very important.)

It's been awhile since we added our kid, but I think it's very simple. If you go through Disney, it's way more costly.

Good luck!

As noted, it's very difficult to do if you have an existing mortgage. You need the permission of the company that holds the loan to do so. Easier to add one than take one off though. If there's no loan tied to the contract, you can do it yourself for less than $50 fairly easily. All you need is a quit claim deed and the ROFR waiver which will be automatic for an immediate family member. If you want to have someone else do the work, Timeshare transfers will do it for $250 if you get the ROFR. I think the company Tom mentioned is just a little higher with their recent fee reductions but not much.

Remember that this becomes part of their property. So if they have any financial problems the entire DVC contract will be at risk. If you want someone to have benefits, add on 25 points through DVC then change JUST the small contract. If you want to pass it through in case of death, there are other ways that will be just as effective and likely safer.

I recently bought a very small second contract (25 points) at OKW (my main points are at VWL). This second resale purchase (a very good deal) was an outright purchase. This time I did at the start have the second name on the title. What you say Dean is interesting. Perhaps I really don't need to add the name to my VWL contract and just make the person an associate. That way they will be able to make bookings as well. The 25 point OKW will give them all the necessary benefits of ownership. I was most concerned about inheritence, but now perhaps I should be looking at other avenues to protect that?

You should talk to your estate planner to see what's best for you. For most people, adding the person to the contact does more harm than good, esp if they've got all the perks by being on the 25 point contract.

Is the second contact the same use year? If so, were you able to combine it with your existing points with a different registration?

Dean,

You've got great insights. Unfortunately it is a different use year, but I figured I could always transfer points to make it easier when booking.

And if you're willing to play the game with the current rules, you could be way ahead if done correctly.
