Not yet had our first vacation with DVC (bought 9 mths ago) so we are still very green to DVC. We own GFV and are already thinking of adding on but would like something else than GFV. I know direct via Disney can cost more but isn’t it easier if you already bought directly through Disney? Is it true they don’t go through all the drama of buying and just flat out pull loan documents? Is it possible to get add ons to coincide with other loans? In other words keep the year cycle the same? Does it matter what other resort you buy in outside of getting the 11 month preference? Points are point are points…. Right?
Thank you

It's pretty easy to buy through Disney. Pick up your phone and call your guide and tell them what you want and they make it happen. They will finance without checking your credit but will charge you scary interest. Your choice I guess.

Have you considered resale? It does take longer and you will have to arrange your own financing, although I hear some resale companies recommend agencies. It takes longer but you can and will save thousands. Disney will tell you that most other DVC resorts are sold out to dissuade you from buying there but they really want you to buy what they are selling and that is VGF and Aulani for $165pp. The "classic" DVC resorts are selling for $130pp but those can be bought resale for $70-$80 pp.

In any case you should probably buy your same Use Year and have it titled exactly the same way your existing contract is. Points at different resorts can only be combined at 7 months and after. Between 11 and 7 months only the points you own at a specific resort can be used to book that resort.

Thank you DizBub! I feel like I have read so much that it is all mush now:crazy2:. Our guide has changed 3 times in 9 mths :scared: the first one never replied to our messages and that must have been because he left or was leaving. The next one was a bit of a smart ____ and rather rude IMO, he left us after two months. We got the third one two weeks ago and I asked for some information but it took her a week to send it to me.
Reading the "rules" on DVC are like reading military regulations and put me to sleep so I gave up on that. It is easier to ask questions here and get answers from those who have been there, done that, drank the Kool-Aid.

I did a bit of looking last night on dvc selling sites and it did give some good information and stuff to think about. Any other FYI you'd like to pass on is very welcome. :thumbsup2

I would not buy anything more until you have a couple of years under your belt, have experienced the DVC, stayed at different resorts and decided on what resorts you like and don't like.

Nothing worse than getting caught up in the excitement of owning, buying a resort that you think that you want, later finding out that you really like a different resort better.

It gets easier, honest. :)

A bit of advice is to look at the top of the page here and see that the Timeshare Store is a site sponsor. You can click on there to see what they have for resale contracts. You can see what resorts are available and the contract sizes and the Use Year. I would look for loaded contracts, meaning they have points available or last years' points banked.

Admittedly resale does take longer and can be stressful but the savings far outweigh the hassle. In fact, if you want to buy direct for any of the other resorts Disney will most likely put you on a waitlist for those points and the wait may take even longer than the resale process. Like I mentioned before DVC guides really are not interested in selling you sold out resorts, they are directed to push the newer, more expensive resorts. Upside to buying that way is you get your points immediately if you need them.

Keep reading here, lots of good information and people are always willing to help.

Agree with Bill. Stay at least a few times before you add on. It'll not only give you a better idea of which resort you'd prefer (especially if going resale), but also your travel habits (are you flexible or do you have to travel a certain time of the year). Even just one stay with visits to all the resorts may change which one you prefer. We own at AKL and love it. When GFV came out we considered adding on there but after a stay were meh about it. We'd stayed at GF before in a regular room and loved it but found that after staying at a variety of DVC resorts it wasn't quite worth it to us for the higher point cost. I'd stay there again but we're now waiting to see what happens with Polynesian DVC and possibly even after that before we add on. On the flip side, we didn't think we'd care too much about OKW but really loved the bigger rooms and relaxed feel.

As a side note DH was a KC10 pilot in the AF. From your name are you or your spouse pilots?

Thank you all for the great advice! :thumbsup2 We will be taking our time now and not be so concerned about getting more straight away.
I am sure I will be asking more questions as time goes on. :goodvibes
