Adding On Resale to DVC contract?

A question for the DVC experts - I have a 150 pt. SSR contract purchased thru DVC. I know if I add on (same UY, different resort) thru DVC it would be a sub-contract of my master contract. If I did a resale add on (same use year, different resort) would this be a separate master contract or would DVC treat it like a sub of the master?

If your add-on is the same year it will be a sub-contract to your existing master. I don't even think they would make it a second master, even if you requested.

If your resale is a different UY, then a new master contract.

P.S. I'm by no means a DVC Expert, but besides sleeping in a Holday Inn Express last night, I have 4 master contracts.

It is DVC's goal to make attach it to existing contracts when possible but they sometimes miss them and will not go back later and combine contracts. I doubt they would make it separate just because you asked. However, if you title it differently at all, it will have to be separate. So if you want it together, make it clear to DVC, if you want it separate you should ask and/or title it somewhat differently. And putting the same names in a different order is not enough.

Our resale add-ons (2 resorts, same use year) are all subs to our master. Making ressies is just like having one contract (for the ones that are for the same resort) but we have the flexibility to sell sub contracts separately. We did not ask for this to be done, it just happened. Don't know whether our resale agent helped in this regard. In a past thread another poster claimed to have separate masters, even though the resale was the same use year and said it was because he had not requested that the resale be a sub. I guess that it wouldn't hurt to verify when you buy, just to be safe.

If a person owns a contract atg resort A for 150 pts, and buy directly from dvc a add on for 50 points from resort B for 50 points (same use year), how good is DVC at tracking the home resort when booking stays at the 11 mth window?

I think I have read on DIS that DVC is very good at keeping track of home resort pts. and wouldn't allow the 50pt contract to book a stay needing 100 pts at a resort, where there wasn't that many pts available to the member at that time.

Anyone have some real world stories to share?

I'm a big proponent of separate master contracts and separate membership numbers. I think the benefits are worth the little extra managmemt.

There are pros and cons to this setup. The main benefit to having them together is the aggregate total for banking purposes and ease of accounting. There are benefits otherwise to having them separate. The main benefit of having them separate is for those that travel, or rent, various times of the year; you can choose which contract to use for a specific trip. It's also an advantage for those willing to take advantage of the current limitations of the DVC computer system when handling transfers. Something I'm willing to discuss but not interested in doing.
