Adding on only if you get a specific reservation -would it work?

We were not going to add-on until next year but this year are taking a special trip. For this special trip we want a 3 bedroom at Jambo house for the week of December 3-10th. We called our guide and told her that we are only going to add-on if we can get this resrevation, otherwise we will wait. It is not a threat, just a fact that we want AKV for this trip and are only looking to add-on if we can get it. Otherwise we will just book SSR, which we own and then try and get it at AKV at the 7 month mark.

Are the guides able to get you reservations like this or am I going to be out of luck? I am not going to spend all this money only to not get the reservation that I added on for. Know what I mean?

the best that I can tell you is that you would be out of luck...

we called last year, and the guide told us what was available... but in no way could he make more, in your case, GV's appear! HTH

They can try but if they are all already booked, what can they do? You are past the 11 month mark.

I have certainly read that some buyers have been able to get a reservation during the purchase process.

I am assuming you want to add on at AKV. I think if that is the case it doesn't hurt to try. I don't think guides can book you AKV with new SSR points before that 7 month window, but if you are adding on AKV points, then maybe.

The worst they say is no, but when making a sale, I think they have the power to pull some magic.

I am hoping it works out because I really want to stay there. But if not, then we will just go to option #2, SSR. No big deal. I am just not going to spend money adding on if I cannot get what I wanted to add-on for.

Then here is the pixiedust that it works out. I can tell you that last year when we added on points, the guide was able to take care of something via manager approval for us that we were told is not usually done (not a reservation though) so anything is possible.

If that's the case, I doubt if DVD management will approve.

The second problem is that when the Guides work their magic, they sometime pull a room back from the inventory that has been released to CRO. Grand Villas are never allocated to CRO.

No we would be adding on enough points to cover the stay at AKV and not use any of our SSR points.

No, we will add on immediately if we can get the reservation. If we wannot get it, then we will add-on sometime later and use our SSR points to book a 3 bedroom there for this trip. Then probably add-on next year or the year after.

We will have to see. I talked to member services today to see what it looked liked at SSR at during that week and she said ti was wide open. I explained to her that we would like to add-on at AKV and get a 3 bedroom there instead and asked her what she thought. She told me that while she cannot tell me what availability looks like at AKV because I am not an owner, she said if it were here, she would wait until Monday to talk to my guide before I booked AKV. Hopefully that is a good sign.

But like I said, if we don't get AKV, I will be happy with SSr too. We just wanted AKV for this trip.

We didn't push, we were buying DVC no matter, but our guide couldn't get us into BWV (our home) over the October weekend we had already booked for cash. We asked.

..i think you should ask. even if it isn't within your guide's power,

...the only way to find out is to ask. & since it's a special

trip...i think he/she would give it a shot.

I think its reasonable to ask...but IMHO what your asking for isn't really reasonable... You are asking for a GV! I don't know exactly how many there are at AKL - Jambo, someone will tell us, I know DIS'ers... If you simply needed a 2br or something like that, you might have luck...

If the resort is not sold out, the guide may be able to pull something out of the developer inventory to make a sale. Rooms associated with the undeclared portion of a resort do not belong to members. There is still undeclared inventory for BLT and for the Kidani building at AKV and the THV at SSR.

It is not likely that one would be able to make such a deal for anywhere else, if there is no availability. Guides have been known to call and "reserve" member inventory ahead of time if it was available when the guide called.

If all of the GV at Jambo are reserved for the time the OP wants, the guides cannot do anything, except perhaps offer a Kidani GV.

Recently there was a report that a QA employee arranged a Priority Waitlist for someone who was adding on and couldn't get a desired reservation at the new resort (because the booking windows were already open). IMO, that was unfair to anyone else who was on the waitlist and should not be allowed unless MS made a mistake. JMHO, YMMV.

Over the weekend we decided we wanted Kidani Village instead because of the extra sitting area. We thought the kids could sleep up there and have their own little space. We would rather of had that, than the pool table room.

Anyway, I talked to my guide today, explained the situation and that we would only do the add-on if we could get this reservation. We had to adjust our dates by just a tiny bit but, we were able to get the reservation. She actually did a ton of working with MS for me because they would not talk to me about availability at AKV since I did not have points. So my guide called for me, and spent about an hour getting it worked out. She did a rush on my contract and called me back within 2 hours and told me my point where there and I could now call and book. So that is what I did. I had no problem getting the room.

It was great and my guide was fantastic!
