Recently married and wondered what is the difference and pros and cons between just adding new spouse's name to deed vs just adding name to membership . I was looking at other threads and noticed some mentioned that there are 2 different options but not what the benifits or differences are in the process and result. TIA

If you file a new deed with the appropriate county, you would be adding your spouse as an owner. As an owner, your spouse would be eligible for the same member benefits & perks that you receive.

Without filing a new deed, you would only be able to add your spouse as an "Associate Member". An "Associate Member" is not an owner and not directly eligible for any member perks/benefits. Basically, an "Associate Member" can only make/modify/cancel reservations.

If you purchased resale after the restrictions went into place, you don't have any bennies to loose.

Thanks for the help. purchased direct from Disney 11 years ago so might be worth including on deed.

Check on the type of titles for married couples. The correct choice may bypass probate should something happen to one of you.

Be sure to consult your attorney. Adding a new spouse to the deed will make it joint property, subject to any debts your spouse incurred prior to the marriage and joint property in the event of a future divorce.

You can do it yourself for under $50. To get any benefits you'll need to do through ROFR as a formality but it won't pose any risk and they won't cancel reservations though you may see that listed. Unless the spouse will likely travel without you, I'd just wait for now.

Thanks again for the info.. Great to have a place with people willing to share their knowledge.

Except for ownership and inheritance, most of the benefits are available just by living in the same household. The owner may have to purchase the annual pass but any family member living in the same household may use it.

The only time it may get tricky is if she goes to Disney without you.
