adding name to contract?

I own DVC with my daughter and would like to add spouse's name for member benefits, such as golf (I don't ). I understand it's a legal issue but would like to know approximate costs.

you can get him on as an associate for free - but to share the ownership - try $895.00 was the price I was quoted a few years ago.

I think the only thing the associate can't get is the room discount? they can get everything else.

A new deed and recording is about $280. I don't know if DVC can do this but I seem to recall they said they could and the cost a few years ago was around $100. The associate members won't get a card but get most of the other benefits. Of course DVC might allow you to do an add on and add her that way or they may require the reqistration to be the same as the original contract.

Dean is right as I think we chatted about this in the past. $280.00 through Disney and my CM said that they aren't too keen on doing it suggested I could have it done through a lawyer here in NY who has a liscense in Fla. Needs to be recorded with the county. That would cost about $100. My mom just assumed that it wouldn't be a problem when she signed up as a surprise for us. WRONG! We juyst keep it in her name and I just added on points for HH on her's.

You can actually do this yourself. Just do a new deed exactly as the other one but with the right names and have it recorded yourself. You will need to get DVC to sign off on it but this is not a problem in this situation. Total cost just the recording fees. I'd still talk to DVC as I believe they told me $100 back about 1996 though I'm sure the price has gone up. The $280 is the cost for a 3 page deed and recording though one of the closing companies as I'm in the process of an exchange of ownerships with me getting 50 OKW points.

An associate membership--which is free--means that you can make ressies, and bank and borrow points. You cannot find out any information about the contract from member accounting, however, because that's only for the original owner. You cannot add a name to the contract, either, if there is a balance owing on the contract. You need to pay the contract off, or transfer the balance to a mastercard or something, in order to add the name to the contract. Disney will not refinance the loan. As I understand it, the right of first refusal does not apply when a family member is added, so that's good. I am buying my daughter's contract, due to a job loss, but I couldn't get my name added until I followed the steps above, even though the money is direct debited from my account, so I am an associate member till the contract is paid for.

Thankyou for clarifying this for me. I did speak with DVC this morning and was told that adding a name was 'difficult and very expensive and I wouldn't advise it'. It was suggested to buy a new contract with my spouse. When I questioned about buying an add-on with his name added, I was told that DVC couldn't do that. As much as i would love to buy another 150 points, it seems its not worth it for him to have golfing discounted. Maybe I should just learn to golf?! Thanks again everyone.

There's no reason you can't do up the deed yourself and have it recorded. I don't know if DVC will recognize a quit claim deed though. You can send it directly to Orange county for the recording.
