Adding Magical Express

So I just attempted to add Magical Express to our reservation on the website, no go. Emailed member services after reading a few other threads and some stickies.

My question... our trip is 2/8, and I just sent this request... for some reason I have it in my head that if your request isn't 30 days in advance they won't send the luggage tags or booklets. Is this correct? If so, how do you navigate DME without any of the paperwork? If not, how soon do they send your DME 'stuff'?

Any tips for a newbie?

I have noticed three weeks out that I didn't have my ME stuff and have received it in time. Another time I noticed one week out and didn't get anything.
The one time we didn't have our tags, we were told we could either retrieve our bags ourselves or Disney could still get them, it would just take longer for them to get to our room. We elected to grab our bags and bring them on the bus. We also had to get our boarding passes at the ME counter, but probably now with Magic Bands, that's a moot point. I would THINK once your reservation is made, it will show up on your Magic Band. But I would visit the ME counter just in case prior to attempting to board.

As a DVC member, policy is that you have to book DME through MS. MS is just the middle man and IMO they often get in the way.

Once booked you can call DME directly and get great service, 866 599-0951. They can modify your DME reservation, send out extra tags and give you status on when the tags were mailed.

How long would you imagine MS will take to add it, and will they email me back to confirm or should I call? I have never contacted them via email before.

My last trip, I added me 2 days before we left. It was not a problem at all. I think having magic bands would make it even easier.

I can't speak to anything else, but out vouchers became useless from the airport to disney-- everything was on the magic bands. So easy & nice!

I've added even a couple of weeks out and sometimes gotten tags and sometimes not. They will tell you that they will try to get them to you but do not guarantee it.

However it's possible to use ME without even having a reservation with them as long as you have a resort reservation. You just go to the desk when you get off the plane and they will confirm the reservation and get you on a bus. It's also possible to give them your airline baggage check tags and they will retrieve the luggage and deliver it to your room or else you can just claim your bags at baggage claim and bring them on the bus with you.

These days everything is supposed to be on the magic bands so if you have those bring at least one in your carry on.

After trying a few days to get thur to MS...i just called that number direct 10days out from travel ....they sent the tags UPS in about 3 days....

Called ME to check if it was in the system yet... a very friendly woman indicated that it wasn't but she'd be happy to put in it right away, and that they will send out docs immediately.

She took our info in about 1 minute, checked our address, and is mailing the docs. HOORAY!!!!

I thought Disney had a deal with MCO that guests had to have a DME advanced ressie and could not just walk up to the DME desk and get a ride.
Has something changed or do you only need a resort ressie now to be able to use DME?

Disney has a contract with Mears to provide DME and they allow walk ups as long as you have a Disney room reservation. The concept is to keep you on property, they don't want you spending any money somewhere else.
