Adding land days to the land/sea?

Is it possible to add land days before the traditional 3 night land/4 night sea vacation? What I have in mind is adding 2-3 nights at the same hotel we get with the package to give us more time at WDW. Has anyone done this? Is there a potential for having to switch rooms?

We always do this. The first time, we added one day before, and we were able to keep the same room.

The second time, we added two days before and two after. We changed hotels. The first night we were at AS Mu,the second night at PO Riverside, where we were booked for our cruise package. However, we received an upgrade from DCL, so we moved to the Dolphin. After our cruise, we returned to PO Riverside.

For our upcoming cruise in December, we've added 8 nights--two before the cruise at PO Riverside where at least some of us will have to change rooms because 5 of us are sharing a room for the first two nights and then separating for our package, then our package nights at PO Riverside. When we return, we have three nights at AS Mu and three nights at Pop Century.

For December, 2004, we're considering a seven-night cruise, but will still add at least a day before and a day after at WDW!

Our last 7 night (cancelled Nov. 2002 Eastern) and the one Nov. 2003 we booked two extra nights prior to our sailing. 4 of us was about 700.00 at POR. And airfare was less flying Thursday.

I kind of did everything backwards and ended up saving myself some $.

I booked the resort and the cruise separately. I did this for two reasons:

1. By booking separtely I landed the Fairytale Package that included room (7 nights) at the Caribbean Beach and four Ultimate Park HOpper passes during the length of our stay. I paid $1600 total for the seven nights "land."

2. The second reason I did it has to do with Disney's Transportation system. A friend of mine who cruised before me complained that the Disney folks didn't pick up from her resort until the afternoon and she wasn't on the ship until after 3 p.m. (they start embarking at noon). She didn't get a chance to do a whole lot of exploring before she had to get ready for the safety drill, Sail Away party and dinner. Too rushed.

I booked the cruise separately, without Disney's transfers or their insurance (I got mine cheaper through AAA). Since we didn't want to be stuck waiting for Disney transportation during our land stay (we went in high season), we rented a car at a minimal cost. We drove to the Port ourselves and were on the ship enjoying by 12:15!! Our fellow resort guests didn't arrive until 2:30.....

PERSONALLY, I think you need at least 5 days to adequately enjoy the Disney Parks. By booking everything separately instead of a package, I saved $ and got a 10 night vacation for less than a 7-night Land/Sea! My travel agent and I worked every option and this was the cheapest way to do it.

You might want to check into that pay for 4 nights and get 7 special that they have going on now.....then just book a 4 night cruise........or a seven. heheheh

We added 2 nights before our land and sea last December at POR. I booked the extra days myself and told the reservationist that we would be staying there for the land and sea and so she put it on the computer. I also faxed a note to room controller at POR about 4 days before we left and requested the same room. We had no problem only had to check out and then check back in (just computer work and paying the bill) and get a different key to the world card. Guest Services told me they get those extra days often.

We did seven days in the park then the 3 night cruise. We didn't have to change rooms...there was no problem at all. You will be happy you gave yourself the extra time!!!!

We added 3 nights on to our Land/Sea package last year. I called Disney reservations, they checked to make sure that our hotel (Poly) had rooms, and they did. We were in the same room the whole time. We did use Disney transportation, and yes, we were later getting to the ship also. This trip we're not using Disney's transportation, we've got a van rented from Happy Limo.

As you see, you can keep your same room.

Be sure to ride Tower of Terror many times to help get rid of the post cruise "I can feel the land moving" feeling that you get once you leave the ship (at least I feel the land moving after disembarking from a 7 night cruise).
