For my upcoming holiday i booked a room for just me at All Star Music. Plans have changed slightly and someone is joining me for the duration of the 6 day stay.

Now those rooms tend to have 2 beds, for a previous single visit i also got a room with two beds. So i have been reading up and its unclear if they charge you for adding the guest.

I would not want to break the rules so i understand i can add the extra guest when checking in for safety reasons and all that. Question is if i will get charged.

Some spots say you pay $25? per night for the extra adult but only if the reservation already has 2 adults which isn't the case here. Other places say they do it for free or it depends on the CM.

Also the added guest might not even be visiting the parks with me so no need for a magic band, EMH and other things.

A 2nd adult would be same price as 1 adult. The extra charge is when you have 3 (or 4) adults. (I.e., 2 adults, 2 children would be same price as 1 adult.) (You can double check by going to Disney's site, and go through the process of booking a room at ASMu, first with 1 adult, then 2. Obviously don't pay, but go all the way to the cart.)

The room rate is for double occupancy, so you can have up to two adults in the room for no additional charge. If you've booked a package with the dining plan and you add the guest now, they would have to have the dining plan as well. If you wait and add the guest at the front desk when they arrive, you would not need to add the dining plan for them.

That checks out, the price of a room does not change if you choose 1 or 2 adults. I guess adding the guest to the room might be handy for the amenities. But i guess i have to call them to do that.

You can call them, or you can add the guest at the front desk when you check in, or when the guest arrives.

If it’s a room-only reservation I’d call and add the guest now.

If it’s a package then wait until you get there. Note that they won’t be able to use magical express until they are on the reservation.

Also the added guest might not even be visiting the parks with me so no need for a magic band, EMH and other things.

Band works as room key, so they might as well get one if possible (if it’s room only and you add them ahead of time). :)

Good point by PPs about room only vs. package (with dining) reservation. I should have mentioned that - it's important (if the other person doesn't want dining, and you have it, you don't have to buy it for him/her only if you add that person when check in. Not in advance.)

Your friend can get a magicband (it will be gray) at the front desk if you add him/her at check in. If you add him/her far enough in advance then s/he can choose a color (tell you which color to choose, on your MDE).

Oh - if you add the person at check in then s/he cannot take Magical Express from MCO to the resort. Uber is cheap though (and now at MCO). And cannot book FP+ 60 days in advance (only 30). Must have that person's park ticket linked to book any FP in advance.

Anyway, if its a room only reservation I would for sure call today and add the person, to get MagicBand and FP and Mag. Express set up.

Drawback to adding guest at/after arrival is you might be assigned to an unwanted king bed.
