I just bought 150 points in SSR would it be wise to buy another 25 in AKL? If I buy 25 points in AKL, will this give me a way in so I can book in 11 months instead of 7?

Also thank you to everyone for answering my questions you all have been so helpful.

Welcome to the DIS, Jeanine!!

You can only use your points to make 11 month reservations at the specific resort. In your case, you could only make a reservation at AKL at the 11 month mark using your 25 points. You couldn't use the SSR points at 11 months for an AKL reservation. At 7 months, all the points combine and you can use any of them anywhere there is availability.

Or, you could use 75 points for the 11 month window at AKV every three years by banking and borrowing.

Welcome Home - Jeanine3kids from a fellow New Yorker.:cool2:

I brought into SSR at 160 points with a September Use Year in 2005. I recently brought 50 points at AKV. I have been finding that the buying and using your points is a game. :teacher:

I don't know how you use your points. What is the size of the room you need? What time of the year do you use your points?

This is how I plan on using my AKV points maybe it will help you make a decisions. I have a small family - just DH, DS (4) & me so I only need a studio. I also only travel during the off seasons (Adventure and Choice on the point charts).

I am going to use my 2007 AKV points to obtain a few additional days at WDW this use year. My 2008 AKV points will be banked. When I receive my 2009 AKV points, I am going to book a Savannah View Studio in January 2010 for 6 nights. Check in - Sunday & Check out - Saturday. This will cost me 78 points. I will bank the remaining 22 points left to obtain a few additional days in my next use year.

By banking my points I should be able to guarantee my family a Savannah View room at AKV every other year. I think this will be perfect for my family since we really like to stay at all the DVC properties.

I hope this helps.

You have been given the particulars about how many points have home resort advantages, but I might add that if you are wanting an 11 month booking advantage at AKV, you need to look at the point charts and decide what type of reservation you are likely to want. Then take that point value for the amount of time you would like to stay and divide by 3 to get the smaller contract number for the every 3 year booking. That's what we did to come up with the strange 69 point contract. Another bit of research you might do is look at what a unit of your choice might cost in points for specific days. We also looked at that in case we decide to use stays there for a few days at the end or begining of a trip. Don't just add on points in a willi nilli fashion, but have a plan as to the exact number of points you will want at that location.
