Planning to add 100 pts direct at Grand Californian. My understanding is that Disney will only sell direct to you for your existing UY. I have 2 resale contracts already at 2 different resorts, one of them is Grand Californian. Will Disney require me to select one of those use years, require me to go with the UY of the first resale contract I bought, require me to use the UY of my resale Grand Californian since it's the same resort, or let me choose any UY I want since it's my first "direct" DVC purchase?

They will try to sell you a matching UY but you can insist if you want a different one.

However, the biggest problem is that they have not had points for VGC for a long time, and my understanding they don’t even let you get on a waitlist for them.

They have followed essentially two rules, assuming applicable points are available for sale:

If you add on a total number of points that is fewer than the required minimum number of points for a new purchaser, you can add on only in a use year you already have, and if you have more than one use year, you can choose to add on to either regardless of identity of resort for other points in the particular use year.

If you add on a number of points that equals or exceeds the minimum required of a new purchaser, you can choose a use year other than one you already own, although the salesman may not volunteer that option unless you actually ask for it.
