Adding Dining

a package is not the same as a room only reservation. As far as payment and cancellation policies, they are very different. That is why the distinction is always made on the boards between packages and room only reservations.

If you have a "room only reservation with tickets and dining" you have a package. Whether you got a discount with it or not, it's a package. Many discounts are applicable to both room only reservations and packages. The only way to get dining without having a package is to be a dvc member booking through member services or to be eligible for one of the limited offers made to cast members.
thank you!

:flower3: We are saying the same thing. It doens't really matter what it is called, I was just wanting the OP to know that she coud get dining with the 30% off room discount, regardless of it she has to rebook it or not, she can add dining and tickets and still get the 30% off. That was my point and all that I was trying to say. I think you misunderstood me, as much as I did you. And I am sorry for misunderstanding you. :goodvibes
I'm sure you do have a 30% off room discount, that's not the issue, but if you have tickets and dining on that reservation also, it is not a "room-only reservation", you are booked under a Magic Your Way package.

A room only discount can be added to a room only reservation or a package reservation. Dining and tickets can only be added to a package reservation, never a room only reservation.

FWIW, so that everyone on here knows, I wasn't saying that it wasn't called a package, I could care less what you call it. I just wanted to OP to know that she could book with the 30% off and still add dining and tickets. that's all. The point of what it is called doesn't even matter, the point was what you could and couldn't get.

Yes, I know that. But that is not at all what this was about. This was about being able to book dining with the 30% off code, which does make it a package, but does NOT take away the discount.

:rotfl2: This would have been so much easier if you just would have posted...

"OP, you can use your 30% off when you rebook to a package"

instead of telling us we are all wrong for saying you can't add tickets and dining to a room only reservation. You were (completely civil-y) arguing with us about something you weren't even talking about.:confused3

Simply booking with a discount, does not make it a package. The OP is booked under a 30% off room discount on a room only reservation. If she wants the dining plan in any capacity, free or not, she has to cancel her room only reservation and REBOOK a Magic Your Way package reservation.

However. If she books now as a room only under a discount code, she will have to go back and change it to a package in order to add paid dining (not FREE dining; adding free dining will remove ALL previously booked room discounts.) In order to do that, CRO will have to cancel the room only reservation and rebook as a package. It is not the same reservation; it is a cancellation and rebooking. If the discount code has expired by the time the rebooking is done they WILL lose the discount. Of course there might well be another discount out there that they can use on a new package.

Thanks. I'm sorry for the "misunderstanding" also, but when you kept saying the OP could add tickets and dining to a room only reservation, I knew that info was incorrect and she would need to know what to do when a free dining discount is released because it will save her considerable more money at POR than a 30% off room discount.

Have a magical day!

Oh goodness, I know that, I never said that a discount makes it a package. It is fine that she has to rebook, I agree with that, she can rebook with tickets and dining and have a package, and still get the 30% off discount on the room. But yes, it is a package. I have said that already though.

Okay, maybe I should have said that she could add it to the discount. And yes, FD would be much better. It would save me 900 on my current reservation.

If you would like to take advatage of a FD offer should one become available in the future, call and get your deposit back for your room only reservation and rebook at that same hotel as a package using your 30% off code. If FD comes out and they have availability for the FD code at the resort of your choice, switch your package to that resort and promo.

For the love of all things holy, I hope that makes sense to EVERYONE. :rotfl:

Thanks for getting to this point Nala.

Ultimately.. if you book room only and wish to add tickets/dining (make it a package later) --- you are reserving NOTHING. You will cancel and rebook later and availability under your discount offer may be reduced or gone by the later date, because the change over to a package is a CANCEL and REBOOK..

We're not saying you can't do it.. but we are saying beware the pitfalls.

Good advice, that is exaclty what we are doing.

Have just finished reading all the posts--thanks for all of your lively discussion! I think I get it, or at least hope so, and am I right in thinking that I might be best in rebooking this under a package with my 30% off my room, and adding my dining and tickets, then if FD is offered, I could have that applied and would be credited the cost of the dining, and the room would revert back to rack rate. Also, I am hoping for the regular meal plan, but would I be better off paying for the QS in case that's all they offer until we decide if we want to upgrade? Once again, thanks for your input.

Yes, that all sounds good. It is a good idea to only add the QSDP and then if you want to upgrade just make sure you do it at least 72 hours prior to arrival. You are a real trooper for reading through our wacky back and forth stuff from this afternoon. Two hugs for you! :rotfl:

I hope you have a magical trip!pixiedust:

Thanks for the hugs! For some reason, I am a nervous wreck about this trip! I guess I am just so worried that they won't offer free dining, cause we weren't originally planning to go till sept. of next year, but when I got the PIN, they sucked me in!So now we're trying to fit this in, along with next year. Hoping for a FD bounceback, ehich I'd never even heard of until I discovered the DIS. I love you guys! Come on FD--put me out of my misery!
