We have a trip planned for January 8-17, 2015 and I am wondering when the Dining Plan will be available to be added to our reservation. We are taking my parents and they want to pay for the dining plan for the trip and I am trying to get the price for them. We have tables in wonderland but they are insisting that they want the dining plan because it is easier. They are going to have sticker shock but that is the way they want it. at least we will get a discount on alcohol and appetizers if we choose to eat them.

thanks for any guidance from those that have had this issue in the past

The plans and prices have been out for a while, go here for links: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3313171 I assume they are aware that you lose your TIW 20% discount because all those in the room must get the dining plan if anyone does. I assume they are also aware that the dining plan, besides giving up your 20% discount, will actually cost more than just paying regular prices unless all in the plan use all or almost all the meals and snacks provided in the plan

Interesting dilemma. That'll be quite a chunk and the TIW is likely to be much cheaper. You might consider the approach of putting all the meals on one check and using the discount then having them go to the front desk late in the trip and paying the applicable amount. Or you could figure out the amount and let them give it to you ahead and then you take care of everything and use the balance to do something nice for them. Personally I'd simply say no thanks rather than making the choice in question, thanking them for their generous offer.
