Adding dining plan when renting points?

Disney should make it so the renter can call and add the dining and then we could just pay with our credit card at that time. Then the DVC owner would not have too mess with it.

It just worked out so nice last week...My renter added the DDP and then I paid cash at check in....:goodvibes Bummer they changed it...:confused3

DVC wants non-members to book DVC villas through DRC/CRO, not through a member. They are not going to make it easy at all. And I think this is just one way to make it more difficult and it may have been the intent all along to justify prepayment instead of paying when arriving.

For what i know. Only the DVC member is allowed to book the dining plan for his/ her guests over the phone and should be 48 hours before the date of arrival at DISNEY.

THe credit card that needs to be used upon check in should be the guest's since the reservation was also made under his/ her name.

I wasn't referring to using a card at check in. I was talking about the requirement that the dining plan now needs to be paid for over the phone and the only one who can do that is the member.

So, the only way for a renter's CC to be used to pay for the dining plan would be for MS to take the information from the owner, a 3rd party. I don't know all the ins and outs of the law, but I thought companies were required to have authorization from the card owner to charge to it.

I know if I ever rent points to someone, there is no way I am taking their CC# and using it to pay for the DDP--too much risk, IMO.

Non-Members do not get the privilege to do this, or to speak with Member Services. Sorry, but if one wants that privilege, one should be prepared to become a Member. This is one of the things we pay for.

DVC can decide to put the kibosh on renting any time they please. Enjoy renting points while that still lasts.

I, for one, will not ever offer the DDP to a renter of mine again due to this change, and I am just fine with that.

Not sure if this was clarified but I just rented points and was able to add the DDP. I paid in full because it is within the 45 day period. The owner 3-wayed me in with DVC MS and just put the phone down when I gave my CC to pay for the DDP. Worked out without a hitch!!

No one said you couldn't do that - and it won't matter from now on (10/14) whether it's 45 days or less - you will have to pay when it's reserved.

But what many are saying is that it's too much of a hassle for the member, or too much risk for the owner or the renter now, with using credit cards, so members may no longer want to offer it with a reservation.

If it was my credit card, I would not be comfortable with the whole 3 way call - put the phone down thing - but obviously that worked for you and your owner.

Not sure if I clarified, but I did not say it could not be done - only that I will never offer that option to a renter.

In fact, after hearing some frightening stories regarding renters and credit cards, I may have offered my last rental opportunity - before Disney decides to do away with that option.

I have to agree. We bought into DVc this past summer and because of what you mention and fear of a renter charging to my CC on file made us choose to never rent our points. Id rather loose them than take that risk if it comes down to it

I second that. I figure we can always give them away to family, whom we trust, as long as there is availability. :)
