Adding days to your tickets, not always easy

Just a note, as I recieved some misinformation, im sure by accident, on these boards before going and from the disney store.

I bought my tickets from the disney store, I wanted five days, but they only had 4s. On here and at the disney store they said i could upgrade them there, which is true, but the cost to do so is high. You have to pay to get the tickets up to the regular price, then the difference. So, it would have been 120 dollars for 2 tickets for 1 extra day, instead of the usual price. You basically lose the discount you got for pre buying, which doesn't seem right as they still took your money in advance, but thats how it is. They couldn't give me a reason at city hall why they do this, I was miffed particularly since I bought my tickets from Disney. I didn't get mad at them and I could see why they would do this if buying an AP but it was really riling as the Disney store here didn't have 5 day passes. Also, when we approached the person at city hall, he said oh, it'll only be about 20 dollars or so, then is like, oh, no its 120 because these were bought elsewhere at a discount. He then didn't believe that the disney store sold them at that price and asked which one we went to and so on. The Disney store is obviously in some kinda turmoil as they were just bought out again, maybe they'll get their training straight in the future.

We went back the next day to city hall as I just said its ok, I dont want to do it the first time, spoke with a manager who also could provide no logic behind the reasoning. They did though sell me the extra day for just the difference, but they were none too happy to do so and made quite the production despite the fact I was just legitimately confused as to their reasoning and not aggressive or angry with them. I understand its their policy but its a lot of money to spend unexpectedly and we bought the tickets ahead of time to spread out the cost. It worked out, but I felt bad about the situation, but after thinking on it a bit and their complete lack of reasoning I decided it wasn't really acceptable which is why I went back. Not mad about it or anything, just a heads up to people.

That sounds frustrating and time consuming... I'm glad it was all worked out though.

Oh, no! I never even thought about it. I just thought it was easy to add a day two on. We just (today) decided to upgrade our park hoppers from four days to six. And we bought them a couple weeks ago before ticket prices were raised. (They did go up, right?) Just placed a call to the place we bought them from to see if it's possible to change them before we get there, or what.

I am sure sorry that happened, how annoying, frustrating, irritating, and futile! I am glad that you were not charged the small fortune that it would have cost to upgrade, thank god for small favors, or whomever, if you are agnostic, or an atheist (just wanting not to leave anyone out) and I very much hope that you and your family had a great time, despite that incident.

Thank you :) We had a great time, it wasn't a huge deal. It was my first time to a Disney park in peak season so it was kinda neat to see all those people. Ive just seen it referenced here a few times specifically that you can upgrade those tickets and not pay more than the regular upgrade so I wanted to mention it.

I work at my local Disney Store, and we were just gained ownership by the Walt Disney Co. Through all the changes, our ticket selling practices have not changed, nor have the prices. We sell tickets at an advanced purchased price, just as they do online, and just as AAAc and other places do.

I am sorry for your frustration. There was a similar question asked, maybe by someone else, about upgrading passes. I did respond to that and inform the person that the park will upgrade, but they will have to pay the parks listed price for the tickets, not the discounted rate. I am sorry the store you bought them at was out of 5 day passes, and that they continued selling you the 4 day passes. They should have referred you to another store, online, etc. to get you full discount and avoid the hasle/frustraion.

I am also quite surprised about running out of 5day passes, that is not the most common days we sell. We are quite often out of 2 and 32 day passes for adults, not usually an issue for childrens tickets. Actually, we are currently out of adult 2 and 3 day passes.

Glad in the long run everything worked out for you.

It's amazing to me how things at DL is so different than WDW.
I've done an upgrade at WDW before and they always assume my ticket is the same value as the gate price even if I bought them with a discount.
And upgrading is a breeze at WDW.
It's sad to see that DL policy is so different than WDW.
Thanks for the info. Now we know what to expect.

I did upgrade almost years ago, not at city hall, but at the Disney Travel Company that is in DTD, sort of between PPH and DLH. At that time, the additional day was $10 per ticket to add on, and that was adding onto my 3 day hopper passes that came with our AAA package.

However, when I went last year, I was inquiring about upgrading my Costco CityPass tickets to 4 days instead of 3, and it was going to be about $40 per ticket, and that was from the ticket counter. I never did stop by and talk to the travel company to see if it would be different there.

My DSIL upgraded a discounted 2-day PH to a 3-day PH in March. They only charged her the difference between a regular 2-day and a 3-day PH. I think the reason is they didn't know how much she paid for the 2-day. It was a discounted 2-day ticket that I purchased at my work. Buying tickets from the Disney store, I figure they know how much they were purchased for.

My philsophy might have holes in it based on the bar coding. So does Disney know how much you paid no matter where it comes from (i.e. GAT, AAA, etc...)? :confused3

They didn't know it came from Disney store, they actually didnt believe me when I told them it did as they said Disney store didn't discount tickets, which is absolutely wrong, but I didnt argue. But you're probably right in that it did scan up and tell them the price paid if not from where.

On the other hand, at WDW you have only 14 days to upgrade anything, while at DLR you can upgrade an AP to a higher AP at any time.

OP, I have read several reports (which is where the info you were given came from) of people not being charged as much as they tried to charge you. I went searching yesterday, but it was hubby's day off and he was trying to have family time, go figure. :upsidedow

I wonder if the answer would have been different at guest relations or even at the 'bank'? I wonder if it was City Hall that was the problem?
