adding day to ticket?

Forgive me for a new topic if this has been covered. I looked back several pages and tried the search engine....but it was painfully slow and would not pull up any results.

My MIL is going to be in FL during our vacation. She wants to come up to go to the parks with us for 2 days. She has an unused 1 day park hopper pass (no exp'r) from 2001. Does she need to buy a single day ticket, or can she upgrade this one to 2 days? We have hopper tickets for our family, but she needs a second day admission. We can stay in 1 park 1 day if necessary. 40 bucks for hopping isn't so bad on a multi-day ticket, but rather costly for just 1 day.

The ticket she has (if its an older hopper) will work fine for a single day WITH hopping.

But the OTHER day, she can buy either a non-hopper or a hopper (+$40).

Non-hopper allows one to stay in one park or leave and return to the SAME park that same day.

Hopper would allow... well, you know.

What I wondered was can she take this old ticket and add another day to it, or does she have to buy a new ticket all together for the second day. Does WDW upgrade I guess is what I was asking. The ticket is a 1 day credit for guests who were there when they closed the park after 9/11. This is her first visit back since then.

The reason I specifically said what I did, is it would likely be the most versatile thing you could do for the least money spent. (At least you'd have a ONE day Hopper by USING the old ticket, rather than "trading it in".)

On an "upgrade" they'll simply give you the amount of dollars that she paid BACK THEN toward a new 2-day ticket. The hopper option (on the ticket she has now) will be lost.

She would have to pay the full price of a new 2-day ticket (less whatever the amount allowed from the old tix trade-in), plus $40 more, if she wants the hopper option.

Just do the math to see what's a better deal.

If your ticket is from 2001, it's untouchable for upgrades anyway. You must use the ticket as-is.

Yes we upgraded a four day park hopper to a five day with the same option on our 2005 trip. We were told that as long as no portion of the original ticket had ever been used then it was upgradable. For example it cannot be a ticket used on a previous trip with only one day remaining. Our ticket was only one year old however, so I don't know about the 2001 ticket. We upgraded at the ticket center located along the monorail. Hope this helps!!!

ok thanks that what I was wondering. So it may be possible but perhaps not cost effective. She needs a 2nd day anyway so I guess we find out when we arrive. We're military and can get the SOG discount tickets, but I know they aren't going to upgrade a regular ticket. That's why I wanted to find out which would be better (or even possible) because we'd have to do an upgrade at the park (I assume) but if we're buying a new 1 day ticket we can do it at the resort.

My understanding is that this changed at the beginning of the year.
