Adding day to ticket with MaxPass

I've tried a search but don't see my specific question answered. I have a package with 3day hopper/MaxPass tickets. Since booking it became cheaper to fly in day before and we might want to add a day to the ticket. Question is, will it have to include the MP and I am assuming at current pricing since both tickets and MP have gone up since booking?

I don't think you have to include MP if you upgrade to a 4th day. It's certainly an option, but I don't think it's mandatory. Will you be upgrading at the ticket booths? You are correct to assume that you will probably pay the difference between your ticket price (did you buy your tickets through Disney?) and the current price of a 4 day ticket (one park per day or hopper). The CM should ask you if you want to add on MP.

In addition to the above, are you staying offsite? If so I’m pretty sure you need to use your MM before you upgrade the tickets otherwise you may lose it. I believe MM is not available for tickets purchased at the gate and this includes upgrades. Happy to be corrected here but I’m pretty certain that’s the case. You can definitely upgrade any time prior to the end of your last day of validity.

If you’re staying onsite, this information is not relevant to you.

Yes upgrading at ticket booth as we need to see how the first day actually goes. So then say if we determine to add the day early in our trip and we don’t need to add MP do we get to choose which day doesn’t use MP?
We are Sunday through Thursday and already know we are not going on Tuesday. But if we add the day on Monday could we choose to not use MP on Wednesday but use it on Thursday?

Yes, a good neighbor hotel. Surprisingly cheaper as a package then individually when I booked. Good to know about MM.

Is there a reason you're choosing the Monday over the Tuesday? Just curious because Mondays have been pretty busy days. And Tuesday would let you use your MM before upgrading your tickets.
Try asking the rest of your question in the Maxpass/Fastpass Superthread: an overview and some strategy -- maybe someone there has already done this and knows the answer.

I think the way this plays out will entirely depend on the CM at the ticket booth. They are given a lot of discretion. But, if you are upgrading before your last day, I really think you will have to add MP to the 4th day (otherwise how would they know which days MP was valid?). Also, keep in mind that you can only upgrade to a ticket with equal or greater value. I haven't compared the price of 3day+MP old price to 4day+w/o MP new price, but the new ticket has to have greater value.

As far as MM goes, you are not suppose to get it at the ticket booth. But, last year when I upgraded from a 2day to a 3day, I made a comment to the CM about being disappointed that I wouldn't get MM. She just said, "Oh, I already added it to your tickets!" It was nice pixie to start our trip. It's difficult to plan when you don't know exactly how an upgrade will go, but as I mentioned above, so much depends on the CM.

Plan was Knotts on Tuesday and Magic Morning Thursday. But with this thrown into the plans we can move Knotts to Monday. We definitely want to finish at DL and not Knotts and we have a meet up on Wednesday in DL. Adding a day with MP at current prices negates the air savings but does give us an extra day. Just a lot to work around in planning.
Still early. Lots to think about.
Thanks!!!

I thought when you buy tickets if you want to add MP it has to be added for all days - you cannot pick and choose which days have it.

I would make a phone call. I just can't imagine how this would work if you do not change ticket ahead of your trip. I don't know how you/Disneyland would know what day does not have MP on it. I suspect the only way is to change it to a 4 day non MP then add MP in the parks the days you want to.

Do you have hard tickets, Eric, vouchers or are you picking up at the hotel at check in?

Also remember to upgrade your ticket before the end of our trip if you go on the 4th day and want to add a day they won't let you. YOu'll end up buying a day's cost of a ticket instead of a 4 day ticket.

Sadly, I wouldn't. The phone CMs really don't know what they're talking about when it comes to upgrades. I made 4 phone calls (yes, I'm obsessed) and asked the same question about my ticket upgrade and received 4 different answers. The only thing they could agree on was that the final say comes from the supervisor at the ticket booth.

Hmm...I don't think your question is cut and dry. Part of it comes down to how much value Disney credits you for the tickets. This can vary based on who you bought the package/tickets from. You can always upgrade a ticket to a more expensive form of admission provided of course that you haven't used all the days of the ticket up (that just means don't go on day 4 with a 3-day ticket that you already used for the 3 days previous and expect it to hold any value still). You either have to have MaxPass for all days or no days when you buy it pre-loaded, so you can't upgrade to a 4-day ticket with 3 days for Maxpass on it. You can definitely upgrade to a 4 day hopper with MaxPass. If a 4 day hopper without MaxPass costs more than the value of your 3 day hopper with MaxPass tickets, then you can upgrade to that ticket type and add MaxPass on a day-by-day basis at $20 per day. If the 4 day hopper without MaxPass costs less than the value of your current ticket, you cannot upgrade to that. You'll just have to do the math. And you may not fully be able to do the math until you are at the ticket booths if you aren't certain what value the current ticket holds. Finally, did you book directly with Disney? If so, you may be able to call and get your package adjusted at the old rates. Another poster reported success with such a transaction recently. Otherwise, you will have to wait until you are there and visit the ticket booths and whatever you upgrade to will be at current pricing.

Interesting. Curious are you calling Disneyland or are you calling WDTC? AS OP stated she had a package I assumed she would call WDTC. I have always had good luck getting help with tickets issues when calling WDTC as part of my package.

Either direct through WDTC or partners like AAA or Costco.

I did book direct with Disney. I didn’t mention it in original post, but not all of us are even considering adding a day as it would only be a half day and some value rest over fun 🙄
That is why I don’t think it would be cost effective to add a day via package as everyone would have to. Ballpark I am thinking it’s a $45 increase from ticket prices when I booked (3day hopper at booking time to 4day hopper current pricing-leaving MP out of equation) if I upgrade at park.
I may call and see if they can adjust with a pricing that makes it better or about even beforehand. I guess the real variable could be if I upgrade at park if they’d make me upgrade each of the already included MP days to new pricing-that adds $15.
