Adding another name to exsisting contract?

Is it possible to add someone else onto the contract after all the paperwork is done? We already own at BCV and it's all paid off already but I wanted to see if I could add my mother to the contract now. Would I have to get a whole new contract? If I can add her to the one we already have, is it a difficult procedure? TIA
 
You would need a deed transfering ownership from the current owners to the new owners. I assume you would need to go through ROFR with Disney, at least for formality, and then have the deed recorded.

They wouldn't need to do that as they are not transferring ownership. Just adding another name to the existing contract. I know some on these boards have done it and hopefully, they'll see this to give the exact procedures.

Perhaps Disney permits authorization for another person to make transactions on a member account. However, it is a deeded ownership and I don't recall if there is actually a "contract". Disney manages the property for members, the members being the deeded property owners. Disney deeds the property outright, rather than under a real estate contract.
 

I bought DVC by myself, because my DH was not interested. A year later he wanted the golf discount so I added his name to the contract. It cost him about $250.

Actually, that was exactly what my guide informed me we'd have to do: officially go thru ROFR (a guaranteed pass tho), the a new closing at $300 a pop (per contract - we had 2). But if you're willing to shell out the money, it's easy to do. And then you'd have her neam on any subsequent contracts you might acquire as well.

We decided against it, since I make all the resiies in my extended family anyway.

Talk to your guide and she/he can send you a ROFR pass form and the name of a closing compnay that can do it for you.

It is more difficult than many would think. It is essentially the same as a totally new owner other than DVC will automatically waive it in this situation. Also remember that ALL contracts have to be listed the same way. So if you own more than one, or plan an add on, they have to all be in the name names, the same way OR be totally separate and at least 150 points each.

Why do you want to add her? Maybe you should just add her as an associate member. While you don't get membership card in her name, she can make reservations and do other transactions. The other though I had was this. Will DVC do the name change if you do an add on? They may not, be worth a try.

According to my Guide, they will not make the change, unless it's a brand-new 150 pt+ contract. We asked when we were adding on whether we could add my Mom on to our corntracts, and they told us we'd need to do new closings on our existing ones in order to get the new names on the new ones; the names on all related contracts must be the same apparently.

I think the Associate Member route is the way to go here: a no cost alternative (well, except for the missed discounts).
 
I beg to differ.

Our daughter is not on our first contract but is on our next two.

She is an associate on our first one. We put her on after we

closed. She has all the rights of an owner.

I was never told that the owner of one had to be on all contracts.

Not necessarily, you can always get extra cards in the actual members name and give them to the associate member to use.
 
Associate members do not have all the rights of a member. As I understand it, associate members do not get a card, are not entitled to the member discounts, can not sell points but can make and change reservations and bank or barrow points.

With limited exceptions, guests are entitled to the perks when staying on points. And while an associate member cannot get a card in their name, there's really nothing stopping them from using a card issued in the members name. Remember the room key has the members name on it also.
 
Thanks for the advice!

We're planning on adding-on 130 points with a "gift" from my father, with the condition that he and my mother can use some of the points for their use. They own a condo in Orlando and like to stay a few nights on Disney property sometimes. We were going to add on anyway but weren't planning on adding on so many points.

So, if we get an add-on, it would have to be in the same names as the original contract? I can't just have them on the new 130 point one, right?

It looks like adding them on as associate members might be the way to go. Can I just have them as associates on the add-on or do I have to add them as associates to the original contract too?

I'm going to call my guide today anyway, but everyone here is so much easier to understand LOL. He seems to talk in double-speak alot, so I like to know most of the answers before talking to him. :D
 
We added my son when he reached 21 and took away my Mother. It cost us some but I don't remember what. It was very easy. We were on vacation and someone met us at OKW in the library and the paper work was signed.
 
Related but possibly silly question.

What happens when I will my contracts to my children, and then the will gets executed (I die).

Do they have to go through the ROFRerless $300.00 title change, or is there some other procedure for 'inherited' contracts?

Yes you can will it but they would have to change the deed. It's possible to do it for much less if you're willing to do the leg work yourself. In this situation you wouldn't be worrying about title as much.

Interesting idea... though I think I'd choose my mother-in-law to get rid of. Probably a good deal either way, though.
