For the people who fly out of Disney late, do you book an extra day? Our flight isnt leaving until 8:30 the day we checkout and im not sure if I should add on an extra day or not.

We visit WDW every year from Buffalo. We make sure that our flight times get us to Orlando early enough and return us to Buffalo late enough so that we can take advantage of the extra afternoon/morning at the parks! We usually go for 8-10 days and by the time you add on the additional days, the cost is so minimal (I think it comes out to be $14 total for the 4 of us for the additional day). Well worth the extra few bits of Disney Magic IMHO!

We drive vs. fly so we usually leave late in the day to get an extra day of magic. We check out in the morning and check our luggage with the bellman until we are ready to leave.

If you are staying in a studio and have points to spare, keeping the room an extra day may make more sense for you. Additonally, if you have young children that need to nap, or you will be using the pool on your last day, etc. you may wish to keep your room.

If you are staying in a high point room (ex. MK view at BLT in a 2 bedroom during peak season), you may not wish to spend the points.

It really depends on your specific needs. Good luck with your decision and have a great trip!!

Ok if you are talking about do we book an extra night at the resort? NO we check out in the morning.
If you are talking about do we make sure we have enough tickets to go the park that day? Yes
We checkout in the morning spend all day in the park and get back to the resort for our magical Express pick up to go home.
We have done this many times. If your flight is at 8:30 pm you will be picked up by 5:30.

This is what I would do. You can check your bags (or leave them in your vehicle) and enjoy the parks, Downtown Disney, a waterpark, etc. and leave after a late lunch to head to the airport. :)

I wouldn't book an extra day for the room..an extra park day yes:thumbsup2 We usually have a car so we check out, pack the car and head to magic kingdom for our last day..I need to see the Castle on my way out of disney;)

WE had a late flight in December and we did not book the extra day. I wil be honest, I wish we had.

It would have been nice to head back to the room for a few hours before going down to catch ME.

We got up and took our time in the AM and left the room at 10:30 am. We had to catch ME at 3:25 pm so we headed over to MK.

But, by 2:00 pm, my DD and I were done and had seen everything we wanted to for that last day and didn't know what to do. We headed back to the CR (we were staying at BLT) and just "hung around", waiting on the couches.

Had we booked the extra night, I would have gotten to the park a bit earlier, done our stuff, and then gone back to pack up, relax and head to the bus. It would have been more relaxing. I hate not having a place to go and "resting my eyes" on a couch in plain view of everyone, just isn't for me.

I guess it depends on how many points you have to burn. If you are in a studio, I would absolutely book the extra night. Like the PP I enjoy being relaxed on my last day and having a room surely allows that. In fact, if the weather is nice I would probably hang out at the pool for a good part of the day and have the convenience of a room to shower and change. If you are in a 1 or 2 bedroom you would be talking significantly more points and if you are point-poor it might be a tougher decision.

You'll need to leave for the airport about 2.5 to 3 hrs before the flight, so you'll have your bags out of the room by 5. Is it worth 12+ points to have a room for 6 hours? IMHO, no, as we'd be off taking in the last few moments at a park anyway and the room would be nothing more than a glorified storage room for our luggage. Bell service can do that for us.

Your call.

Hi, We leave on a late flight usually and make EPCOT our park for the day. We pack up and leave our luggage with Bell Services,we usually stay in the room till 11am. We have a late lunch between 1 and 2 in World Showcase. (our last 2 lunches have been at Tutto Italia:thumbsup2) It is a good park to watch a movie and relax or walk around and have a drink ;). We leave Epcot 3 hours before our flight time. That allows for time to get back to the resort(usually we are at BCV) pack the car and driving time to the airport to arrive 2 hours before departure. Joan

I think it should also depend on if you have any kids that normally nap. Trying to get a young child to nap in the overstimulated paradise that is Disney can be fruitless task and a missed nap can make travel much more difficult. (Tantrum anyone?)

I guess that is an important piece to include. The extra day would be a Saturday in a 1BR BWV Boardwalk view room = 47 points. That is what im having a hard time justifying to myself.

This is what makes me nervous. We do not have any children, but I hate the idea of being homeless. Im not a big fan of heat so I tend to take a lot of cool showers in Disney. I dont like the idea of touring the parks and not having a place to freshen up before our flight. We will have a little over 7 hours without a place to squat.

I know. That is why if we have a late flight again, I will either pay for the night in points, or see if I can get it at a discounted cash rate. Now, we were in a studio last time so the point difference was minimal. I actually tried to reserve it a few months before, but it was early Dec @ BLT and no luck in getting a SV studio to extend the stay--all booked.

7 hours is a long time to be homeless. Have you checked out if a cash night is available and for how much?

This sounds like a new thread in the making: What do you do before a late ME pick up?
We are taking a late fight out our next trip too ME come and get us at 5:30pm. With 2 kids in tow I will have a plan of things to do!

I've thought about it, but have never booked the extra night. Even for our DS's family. They usually aren't picked up by ME before 5PM, (They really like to make the most of their WDW vacations) but still, they've managed to have a good day at the resorts/parks without needing a room. If they wanted one, I would have booked one for them, 3 DGC, youngest is 5 now.

They've been happy with the shower/locker room at Kidani, or at the Community room for kid's activities. We're usually gone before they are.

Thanks once again for all the replies. I didn't realize I could try to get the night on a discounted rate. This DVC thing is still kinda new to me. How would I even go about that, Member Services? I really like the idea of having the extra day, and im sure we will like the idea even better the morning after a late night at Jellyrolls.

Yes, just give MS a call and ask them if the night is available at the DVC discounted rate. It is not always available, but if it is, it is a 25% discount.

Many have done this for weekend days since the point count is so high. Good luck!

Alright, so I called MS this morning. There were no cash rooms available at the BWV for the night we check out. They had a few rooms at BCV for $400 a night with the discount. I never appreciated being a DVC member so much.

Regardless, I think we finally have a plan. The day we check in we aren't landing in Disney until 10pm. So the first night we will check into a standard view studio just to sleep (not sure why I wasn't considering this a wasted day). We will check out the next morning and check into our 1BR. I was worried about our room choice checking in so late anyway, so this will work out even better. I can justify spending the 21 points, I couldn't justify the 47.

Thanks to everyone for the great ideas! :worship:

OK, color me confused. I thought we were talking about the day you were leaving, but you wound up downgrading your first night instead :confused3

Maybe I just need a nap.... or a pizza

Yes, that is exactly what we are doing. We are checking in at 10:30 and heading straight to Jellyrolls. We wont even see our room until 2am. We will wake up the next morning, check out and re-check into our 1BR. Then we will head to the MK while our room is getting ready. It wont put us out of our way at all.

We will save 47 points not checking into the 1BR the first night. And add the day on at the end of the trip with those 47 points. It will still come out to an additional 21 points for the standard studio the first night. But I can live with the 21 points.

Now I think I confused myself ;)
