Adding and taking off dining question

Can anyone tell me about this? I have an AP room discount on WL in September. I added dining to it and so have to pay the balance 45 days out. Two big checks I have been expecting from clients are delayed and I am getting nervous about them getting here in time to make the payment. I am thinking about downgrading and going to ASMU, but then it just occurred to me that if I take the dining off I may not have to pay until I get there - and my checks will definitely be here by then. Am I right in thinking that if I take off dining I don't have to pay until I get there? And can I add dining back on then when I do pay?

If you take dining off & want to add it before your trip you have up to 3 days before. Can't add it on when you get there. So I am told by Disney. But call & speak to a guest relation person. Good luck.

You can't add the dining plan when you check in. It must be done ahead of time, although how many days ahead is something you need to ask disney. Also, I am not sure how this works, cancelling a package and changing to a room only reservation, but if you have a room only reservation and want to change it to a package, they cancel the room only reservation, refund any money you have paid and make a new reservation, charging you a new deposit. So I am not sure if they will do the same thing if you change a package to a room only reservation, but you may need to be ready to pay a new deposit, in case it works the same way.
