So in May of 2019 I plan to take my family on our first Disney cruise. My sister in law and her husband plan to join us. I was wondering about leaving the girls with my in-laws and flying out early to spend some alone time with my wife and join up with the rest of the group before we head to the ship. My questions are:
Has anyone done this?
Do you have any recommendations?
I would be pretty open. Thanks

How would your girls get to the port? If they're kids, how old, and would they have someone to fly with them? Not getting the whole picture here.

You could cruise as adults only. Of if you just have a few night alone the meet up with the kids and board the ship you could do that too. I’ve sent my son as a unaccompanied minor on a plane before and while it’s nerve racking it’s a way to get the kids from a to b. Is there anything in particular you’re trying to work out?

On these boards you are going to get one of two recommendations:
1) Do a cruise yourself before your family joins you.
2) Go to Walt Disney World for however many days you have before the cruise.

:)

There are a lot of beautiful beach areas on the Florida coast! Are you renting a car so that you can drive? There’s Amelia Island right down to Miami!
If you aren’t renting a car you can always take the Disney transport and stay at one of their romantic hotels like the Grand Floridian. Skip the parks and do maybe a spa / pool day. Followed by dinner at the hotel (maybe Victoria and Alberts?). A stroll around Disney Springs at night for cocktails.
Doesn’t have to be kid oriented at all nor amusement park themed!

Port Canaveral

The kids would fly with my Sister-in-law whom they would be staying with for a few days while my wife and I have some adult time before joining up with the whole group.

I would rent a car and drive to Cocoa Beach, or Daytona or New Smyrna Beach. Last trip we drove a little further to Clearwater Beach, was beautiful there.

If you particularly want to stay at a Disney resort, the Vero Beach resort is beautiful. From Vero to Port Canaveral would be about an hour and a half or so along A1A, a beautiful drive along the ocean.
