I should know this, but we've never had to do it before: We have a trip coming up next week (late in the week, so no hurricane, thankfully). But, I'd like to add my son to the reservation. (Right now it's just DH and I, so no problem on the number of people.)

Do I have to call Member Services, or can I just add him when we check in?

If he needs Magical Express, call MS. If you're driving or not flying, you can add at check-in.

Thanks! That is exactly what I needed to know. He's already down there working in the Disney College Program. I just thought he might want to spend a few nights with us and let us buy him some dinners and breakfasts.

Add him ahead of time. The front desk CM's are not the best versed in modifying DVC reservations and there have been reports over the years of modifications actually taking new points and placing the other points into holding. Even if that does not happen there have been even more reports of it taking a very long time for a front desk CM to do this. MS will do it in a minute or two.

To add at check in they'll have to cancel and rebook it, bad idea letting the resorts do this given the multitude of issues over the years. I'd just send an email to MS or try to do it by Chat and do it ahead of time.

Add him now; don't wait until you check in. I added my son to our reservation after we arrived and because of the issue of canceling and rebooking the reservation. They added him as a day guest, but he couldn't use a magic band (we took him to F&W after he got off work). He got a card for a room key and a parking pass (he lives locally and works for Disney). I should have added him before we left.
