Adding a guest to your room once on property?

My SIL is a local and often visits us when we are staying at our villa. I've never added her to our reservation before, sometimes she spends the night (it doesn't put us over occupancy), sometimes she just visits for the day, she really has no need for a room key so we have never gotten her one.
However, this trip we are staying at the Beach Club so a room key for pool access is a must correct? I have no idea if she'll be there on a day when we are planning on using the pool or not until it comes up. There is no way she'll be swimming in December, so it would more likely be her hanging out on a lounge chair. Will she be permitted to do this as our guest without a room key? If she needs a key, can I add her then and there?

Last December the CMs at AKL indicated to me that it would not be a problem at all, to put my aunt on our reservation for a night or two. I was SO cold and I had a feeling that the heating situation at her place out in Port Orange was bad, and I wanted her to be warm. They said that all they would need was her name, and they would have added her to our villa. She ended up staying with her daughter, though, so we did not do it.

I think you might find this depends on the CM you speak with.
In the past we wanted to add my daughter and son-in-law to our reservations after their's had ended. We were all at BWV. They wouldn't let us do it. No explanation. We were 2 adults staying in a 1 bedroom villa for an additional 4 nights.
It didn't make sense.
Later we went to the front desk and added them on.
Sometimes I think if you get a less experienced CM, they might not have the experience to handle something "out of the ordinary"
Good Luck!

Just add her to the reservation now and be done with it. You can keep her key or leave it at the Front Desk for her to pick up if you are away from the resort.

I'm assuming that you will not be on the DDP.

Did you ask at the front desk both times, or only the second time?

I added my son at the front desk when we checked in. BUT DON'T DO IT THIS WAY. The CM made a big mess out of the reservation. She cancelled it and all my points then had to try to rebook the reservation, meanwhile sending my points into holding. She then took points out of the wrong use year and I had to plead with MS to let me bank the original points. Please, add her before you get there and be done with it, as stated.

We added my mom & dad to our BLT stay last time we were there. It was mid stay, I went to the front desk and asked to have them added. Within a few minutes, I had their KTTW cards and a parking pass.

Lampy, that sucks, and I wonder why the CM even thought about canceling the reservation and rebooking. I didn't think that needed to be done, unless you were getting a larger room. In this case, I may call MS instead.

We added two people to our stay at BWV in March when we checked in and had no problems. There were two of us in a 1 bedroom, so we had no occupancy issues. We completely checked in first though.

When I have a day guest over, I do not add them to the room. Now staying at BCV and the person wants to go to SAB would be different; I would add them so they have a room key. When someone is staying over night I would make sure they are added; due to an emergency situtation that might arise at the resort, DVC needs to know how many people are in each room.

It should be no problem adding her to room so you can get key. However, if you want to make it easy and you know she is coming just add her now to the whole reservation and then when you get there tell them to hold her key at front desk until she arrives later. That way she can arrive and go straight to front desk and get key.

I was discussing on another thread recently that the BCV front desk would not allow me to add my parents to our studio, this past summer. They would have been guest numbers 3 & 4, so no problem with occupancy. The cast member told me it was not possible to add additional guests to a DVC room after check-in.

I thought this sounded strange, so I called member services when I got back to the room and was told the same thing.

On the other thread, several people commented that this didn't sound correct, and that they'd added additional guests to their room after check-in in the past.

None the less, if there's a possibility she'll be in the room -- and you're not on the dining plan -- go ahead and add her to the reservation now. There's no down side to doing so. Better safe than sorry.

(We wound up going to their pool at the Swan because we didn't have keys for them to come to SAB.)
