We are booked for free dining in Dec. Due to flights we need to stay one day extra. Can I add a day to my existing reservation if there are no "free dining" rooms left for that day-like just at a regular room rate? If so--is this recommended? I don't want to do anything that could potentially mess up my reservation.

Should I just book a brand new reservation for one night only?

If FD isn't available for that extra day then it will be a separate reservation.

IF a FD room is still available for your resort/room category it can be added to your current reservation. If this is the promo that ended last week you'll have to speak with a Guest Services CM because the regular CM who answers the phone will not be able to make the modification to your package. You'll have to pay the additional cost at the time of booking.

If there are no more FD rooms available for the additional night you will have to make a separate reservation for the one night. The deposit for a room only reservation is the first night (or in this case the only night's) room cost.

How do you get a Guest Services CM instead of a regular CM? We were considering adding a day if one is available.

When you get a reservation CM, ask to speak to Guest Services. They might balk at first, but be persistent.

It will be interesting if you get to add a day as that promotion is over. I don't know if you can extend after the promotion offer dates have passed.

I'm not concerned about getting the free dining for one day..i'm more concerned about trying to add a day and it screwing up my whole reservation somehow (is that crazy? does it happen?) and then I have problems!

I might just book a separate one day ressie and not have to worry about it :)

Modifications can be made (adding nights, changing resort/room type, etc) to an existing reservation even after a promo has expired. As a pp said, the OP will most likely have to speak to someone in guest services as regular CRO CMs don't usually have access to expired promos, but it can be done. I have done it a few times in the past. Guest services can check availability/make changes as long as what the guest wants is available under that promo.

Booking a RO reservation in addition to your package will not do anything to your package. If you book that extra night at the same resort (and room type) as the package, have the 2 reservations linked, with a request to keep the same room. When you check in for the first reservation, tell the CM you have a continuing reservation and would like to keep the same room. It's not guaranteed you won't have to move, but Disney will do everything they can to accommodate you.

So I would just say I would like to speak to someone in guest services if they say they can't modify the reservation?

I'm trying for the same thing for November, hoping one particular day will open up as people cancel.
Does Guest Services have access to expired promo inventory that a regular CM does not have? Or will a regular CM be able to tell me if the night is available, just not be able to book it?

Only GS has access to the expired promo inventory.

However, like the pp stated, CRO CMs will usually mediate the conversation by placing guests on hold, thus not allowing guests to speak directly to GS.
